Chapter 42
“Hey, check this out!” I called to Jenna, who was standing at the bottom of the staircase. She turned her head to face me, and grinned.
“What’ve you found now?” She asked, running up the stairs. I pointed to a glass case that sat on an antique wooden table. Jenna’s grin widened, and I couldn’t help but smile.
“It looks so cute,” I commented, “Even if the whole thing was sad.” Jenna nodded, and put an arm around my shoulder.
“I swear if there was a Vesuvius in our town, I’d make a run for it to the other side of the world.” I laughed at her comment, as we looked at the wonderful model of Pompeii. It was already the second day into the trip, and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I hadn’t seen Max since Sunday after I left him to see Jenna, and my mind was free of worry.
Well, nearly free.
The thought of something happening to Yale was killing me inside. No matter how hard I tried to think positive about things, I still thought up vivid images of Yale being badly hurt. I put a hand on my forehead, and breathed in deeply.
“Everything alright?” Jenna asked, peering at me. I nodded, and faced her.
“I can’t stop thinking about Yale,” I whispered, feeling myself slightly shaking. Jenna hugged me and sighed. “I’m starting to miss him so much; and the fact that Max is going to hurt him and the fact that he’s my boyfriend is killing me.” I sighed, and pushed back the tears that wanted to force their way out.
“Crap, we forgot to call Tyler!” Jenna cried out, her hands on her head. I gasped, and looked around frantically for a phone.
“I don’t think it’d be a good idea to use mine,” I pointed out, looking at my phone. “I was so stupid to take it from him.” Jenna frowned.
“What do you mean?” I rolled my eyes.
“Max gave me the phone, remember?” Jenna looked thoughtful for a moment, then nodded.
“That’s why it’s got the chip in it; he wanted to know what you were up to and all that.” I nodded, and looked at my phone again. What was the point in keeping it?
“I’ve got an idea,” I muttered, and walked to one of the doors in the hall we were standing in. “I’ll shove this phone somewhere random; Max will probably think I’m hiding in here.” Jenna laughed, and followed me to the door.
“It’s not locked so you can throw it in.” I nodded, as I opened the door and threw the phone away.
“Can I borrow your phone then?” I asked Jenna, who nodded and passed me her phone. I quickly typed in Tyler’s number, and hit the call button. I waited patiently, as the phone started beeping.
“Hello?” I heard Tyler’s husky voice mutter.
“Hey Ty, it’s Abigial,” I replied, the phone shaking in my hand.
“Is everything alright Abby?” He asked, “You sound shaky.”
“I’m fine. It’s just...” I paused for a moment to take a deep breath. “Yale might be in big danger...”
“What do you mean?” I sighed.
“Max is planning on hurting Yale, and I don’t know what to do. We’re like hours away from where you are, so I can’t get back. You’re the only one we can trust with this; what can we do?” Tyler gasped, and muttered something under his breath.
“What is that freak plotting now?” I sighed.
“To be honest, I don’t know. But he’s doing it with some other guys, and one other person you know.”
