Chapter 41
“So, who do you think they’re talking about?” I asked Jenna, as we made ourselves comfortable in the coach. I opened my bag, and grabbed out a yoghurt drink. Jenna turned her iPod on, and looked through her list of songs.
“I think it’s quite obvious,” she replied, still shuffling through her songs. I mean, who else would Max want to put out a plan on?” I thought for a moment.
“Tyler?” I guessed, taking a sip of my yoghurt drink. Jenna chuckled and shook her head.
“Why would he want revenge on Tyler? He hasn’t done anything that involves you.” I frowned.
“That involves me?” I asked, puzzled. Jenna nodded, and put one earplug into her ear.
“If you hadn’t noticed yet, but you are all that Max ever thinks about. I mean, look at the way he stares at you.” She then lowered her voice and moved closer to my face. “Even if he doesn’t love you like he should, he still wants you.” I scratched my head.
“But what’s that got to do with anything?” I asked, still looking confused. Jenna sighed, and put in her other earplug.
“Max wants you for himself, and only himself. But he only wants you so he can hurt one person; one person he’s related to but hates him.” I crossed my eyes, and scratched my head.
“Do I know anyone related to Max?” Jenna sighed again, obviously getting annoyed.
“So you’re telling me you don’t know that one person related to your boyfriend?” I shook my head.
“Uh, no.”
“You’re so dumb Abby. Does the name Yale spring to mind?” I gasped as she said his name. I’d completely forgotten about him, and now that he was mentioned, a lot of things started to make sense. It was Yale who was the victim of the plan Emilie was talking about. And it was quite obvious that while Max was trying to distract me on this trip, Emilie was going to carry out the plan while I wasn’t around. No wonder she was so nosy during Study Hall hour. She wanted to know more about our relations with him and Tyler..
“Do you think they’re going to hurt him?” I asked, as I looked a Jenna. She shrugged and pulled an earplug out of her ear.
“To be honest, I think that’s what they’re planning. I mean, obviously they don’t want you to see it so they’re putting it out while we’re not around.” I sighed, and looked at my lap. It hurt me so much to know what I fool I was into falling for Max. And it hurt me that Yale, my first boyfriend, was going to be hurt by him. I didn’t know what else to think; so much was circling my mind I didn’t know if I was going to be able to handle it all. Suddenly, a gentle arm rested itself on my shoulders.
“Abby what’s up?” Jenna asked, putting her iPod aside. I sniffed, and realised I was crying.
“I honestly don’t want anything to happen to Yale. I’ve just realised I still care about him, even if he did hurt me. And to be truthful, if Max really does carry out this plan, and that it actually succeeds, that he’ll hurt me a ton more than Yale did.” Jenna smiled, and gave me a hug. “I wish I wasn’t on this trip. I’m dreading the whole thing already.”
“Don’t worry too much though,” Jenna reassured me. “Tyler’s still at home, right?” I nodded, and then a smile appeared on my face.
“He says hello to you by the way,” I said, grinning. Jenna laughed, and put a palm over her face. “But anyway; does that mean we’ll have to let Tyler know about this?” Jenna nodded.
“He’s the only one around, and Yale and him talk now, so yeah. Text him now.” I nodded, and got my phone out. As I was typing the message, my screen flashed, and a text message from Max came up. I looked up at Jenna in surprise, who looked back at me with exactly the same expression.
From: Max Smith
To: Me
Hey beautiful. I miss you already. Can’t wait to see you again.
Remember, I have my eye on you babe. :-)
Max xox
“That is so weird,” I whispered, closing Max’s text message and cancelling Tyler’s message. Jenna frowned and looked at me.
“What is?” I pointed to my phone.
“On the way to school in the car, Max checked his phone the same time I was writing that text message to you; now he’s texted me while I was writing that message to Tyler.” Jenna’s eyes widened in shock.
“Do you think he might have some sort of radar application thing on his phone?” I shrugged, but my heart was beating fast again. I looked at my phone, turning it upside down. I by accident dropped it, and the battery lid fell off. I picked up the lid and the phone, and looked at the back, only to gasped.
“Jenna, look at this!” I whispered, holding the back of the phone towards her. Jenna’s eyes widened even more.
“What is it?” Suddenly, I found it difficult to speak. What I had just found out was about to make this week the worst week of my life. Jenna, Tyler, my mum, and Yale were definitely right about Max. He was cunning.
“It’s a hacking chip,” I replied.
