I walked into the school building with a frown on my face. I do this basically everyday because my dad and I had another huge argument. I threw my hello kitty bookbag on the lunch table, or in this case, breakfast. There's only two weeks left of eighth grade and my parents aren't letting me go anywhere for the summer. Around the table sat my friends, Jakia, Emma, Morgan, and Megan. "Another bad morning?" Asked Morgan. "Yeah." I responded rolling my eyes. I took out an apple out of my book bag and took a bite out of it. Just as I was finishing up my apple, the bell rang for first period. I walked with my girls to Athletics. "What's up Coach Mason." Jakia said as we entered the gym. She continued to talk to our coach as the rest if us went into the locker room to change. I got changed and put my hair into a ponytail. I was the first one out so I ran to my spot. We stretched, and then we had a basketball game. It was Me, Morgan, Jakia, Emma, Megan, and this other girl, named Skylar, against the other team. We huddled up to come up with a team name. "How bout the Titans?" Skylar asked. Morgan and I shook our heads. "What about The Beasts?" Jakia suggested. "Too simple." I said. "The Cheetah Girls." Morgan and Megan said at the same time. I smiled. "Let's do this." I said, placing my hand in the middle of the circle. Emma placed hers on top of mine. The rest joined. "Cheetah Girls!" We all shouted, releasing our hands. "Okay. Cheetah Girls versus The Champs." Coach Mason said. I walked into the middle of the floor for jump ball. Another girl walked up in front of me. Coach Mason threw the ball up and I tipped it off to my team. Megan had it. She dribbled it down the court, then passed it to Jakia who shot a three pointer. We cheered and went back to the middle. The Champs had the ball now. When there were ten minutes left of class, Coach Mason told us to go get dressed. The score was 24 to 11. We won. I got dressed, put deodorant and perfume on and let my hair down. I grabbed my book bag and threw it over my shoulder just as the bell rang for the next class. The rest of the day was fine. We aren't going to do anything else for the rest of the year. I walked home so it would take me longer. When I reached my house, I walked into my room and threw my bag on my bed. Since no one was home, I decided to check the mailbox. There were two packages and four envelopes. I threw the envelopes on the counter and looked at the packages. I seen that one was for me so I threw the other one on the counter. I walked into my room and opened the package. I almost fainted as I read the letter that was sent to me.

Dear Madison,

I'm sorry for the late notice, but I think that it's time you know. You were adopted as a two month old baby. I had you when I was fourteen and if I kept you, I wouldn't have had any help so I had to give you up. I'm still with your father and we would love to have you here for the summer. Your father owns a hotel and I'm a model so we'll have the money to buy your school supplies for next year and maybe even clothes. Also, you have a little sister. Her name is Royalty. She's three. You two don't have the same father because there was a time when your father and I weren't together and I was with another man. Well, after I had Royalty, he left me and your father stepped up and helped. Your father's name is Chris Anderson. There is a picture of us in the package, along with a plane ticket and some money for the way. We can't wait to see you.

Love, your mom,
Lacy Henderson

I looked inside to see a picture of them. I smiled. A lot of people have said I act like I have black in me. Well, my biological father is mixed. I just can't believe no one told me before now. I'm fourteen! I took the letter and put it in my top drawer. I hung the photo on my wall. Just then, I hear the front door open. My parents are home. Or should I say, adoptive parents. I turned on my Ariana Grande playlist and laid down on my bed.
