Incubus' POV
I inhaled the cold air that smelled of smoke, metal and sweat. The faint scent of humans everywhere - their blood mingled with their emotions - made me dizzy.
The same three minutes kept playing over and over in my head. Anna dying. It had been so easy and quick...
It had been too easy and quick.
"Ugh!" I yelled suddenly, my frustration seeping through every pore in my body. I kicked someone's garbage can over savagely, causing a huge ruckus.
"Whose there?!" Someone yelled. I hadn't noticed the old man sitting on his porch as I had walked by. I was too distracted and too angry to notice anything now. Anything except for that same, insane, viscous hunger I felt way before. I felt it now too, I realized as I looked at the old man squinting into the darkness of the night.
My mind travelled away from the picture of Anna's lifeless body, to the sleeping bodies of all those innocent people. The taste of their sweet dreams made my mind spin and my mouth practically water. It had been so long.
Without thinking, or taking any sort of caution, I turned on my heels and walked up the driveway, toward the old man who seemed to be sitting down again. I briskly marched up the concrete steps of his porch and paused. He had an open book on his lap, and was gazing almost wistfully at it. It was a family photo album.
"Where did I go wrong?" He sighed. "My whole family has left me."
"It's good not to keep distractions around." I said, causing the old man to jump in surprise. He looked up and saw me, fear and shock clearly displayed on his face. The sickly sweet scent of his fear almost drove me to kill him. But before I did, I needed to give him parting words - a chance to say his last words.
"What - who the heck are you, young man! I don't want any trouble so please just leave." He said. I didn't move. I took a step forward, one foot on the porch and the other still on the steps. I could see him fidgeting, worrying as the adrenaline began to course through his old, dried up veins. Even at his age, his body thrived to survive. It was such a beautiful and tragic thing, how much effort the body put in to stay alive, even though it knew how easily it could be snubbed away.
"It's better that they left you." I spoke, my face emotionless and my voice just as blank. "There's no need for you to sacrifice anything for anyone now. There's no one you have to take care of - besides yourself. And, there's no one you have to worry about living or loving."
"I...I -" the old man stuttered as he stared up into my eyes. "What the hell are you?" He whispered and I smiled, my lips slowly pulling upward into my insane, wicked grin.
"Nice of you to notice. I guess I shouldn't blame you, your brain is slow and aged. You wouldn't have noticed my bright, unnatural red eyes before, right?" I laughed.
"You...what..."
"Oh, shut up!" I yelled, my cursed blood boiling inside of me. I know I was pushing my frustration and anger on him, but I didn't care. I was a demon. I didn't have any reasons to care, or feel guilty. And I loved it. "I'm a demon. And, unlucky for you...I've decided that you'll be my very first victim from the..."vacation" I took."
"No - I'm a good man! I go to church -"
"Church won't save you." I said, my voice deepening into a murderous sneer. "And neither will your God." Taking the last few steps toward the man in a second, I grabbed him by the throat, his weak, liver spotted hands flailing and clawing at my hand. He made a sound of struggle as I raised him in the air, his feet kicking at me in an attempt to save himself.
"You're dead either way. Accept it." I said through gritted teeth, my grin falling as I stared into his frightened, wide eyes. I gazed at him with the blank bloodthirsty face of a killer just before I blew out the light in his eyes.
"See?" I asked, as his body fell limp. Oh, it felt so good to be back.
