Sorry for the late update! Who knew being a damn junior could be soooo difficult *rolls eyes*
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••Unknown POV
I watched as he growled those vicious words out, his lip pulled back to reveal his inhuman incisors. They were like the typical vampire fangs, except...real - and very pointy.
He was staring at Officer Walker who was frozen in place with terror sprawled all over his face. I knew my face mirrored his. I looked over at Rosanna beside me, she was staring straight ahead, not at Incubus or even Officer Walker, or anything in particular at all. Her eyes were wide, almost bulging out of her head, and her mouth was pressed into a straight line that trembled.
Turning away from the sight of Rosanna's intangible fear, I watched as a horrified bystander, the righteous warrior part of my mind screaming at me to do something to help Officer Walker before he met his gruesome end because he tried to help me.
Do something, do anything. Help him! A little voice yelled in my empty head. But that's the thing - it was small, ignorable and easily drowned out by the echoing sounds of Incubus' heavy black boots on the tiled floor. I knew I wanted to survey the room, to hold eyes with another Hunter to signal we should do something, whether that something was run away, or help Officer Walker. But I couldn't. It was like Incubus was a magnet and my eyes couldn't be spared to leave his sight. And so, I watched his leather clad back move farther away from me, and instead, closer to Officer Walker, his strides lethal and predatory. It was vicious and evil of me to not speak up, or stand up for Officer Walker when he had done so for me. I knew he felt betrayed.
"I'll show you what my power can do." Incubus growled out. "I'll make you scream, I'll make you want to rip your own skin off. You underestimated me - and you do not underestimate me."
"St..." I began, but the word never left my mouth. I was too quiet for even Incubus to hear. I was a coward. Stop! I wanted to yell out so badly, but it seemed as if my body had taken control of me - and wanted to survive longer - making me keep my mouth zipped shut, and my soul safe.
"You all want to see what happens when people try to one-up me?!" Incubus yelled, his boastfulness and pride evident in his tone. I guess demons didn't have a problem with being conceited. "This happens!"
And with those two words, Incubus thrust his right arm out, hooking his fingers so they resembled claws. He struck Officer Walker in the stomach, but the blow didn't push Officer Walker backward, it just made him gurgle and sputter. What I didn't realize - until after Incubus pulled his hand out of Officer Walker - was that he had created a gaping hole the size of his fist, in Officer Walkers torso. I listened as he sputtered and coughed, but stayed alive. I heard someone begin to throw up at the grisly sight, and I heard myself and many others gasp and cry out. It was as of the sight of blood and organs had awakened us out of our frozen terror. It spurred us back to life. And that was good.
"This...is what happens." Incubus whispered out again, staring at Officer Walker. Incubus then held up the same bloodied hand up to his face and stared intently as the thick rivulets of blood moved along his skin, creating crimson tracks on his pale skin, as he moved his hand around. Suddenly, he blew upon that hand, sending drops of blood flying into Officer Walkers face. He then began to scream, the drops of his own blood that had splattered onto his face, beginning to sizzle like they were acid.
I whipped my gaze away from a gaping Officer Walker, and up to Incubus who stood in front of him, watching with slightly wide, surprised eyes.
As if he didn't even know the extent to his own power.
"W-we..." Rosanna began to mumble out beside me. I turned my head toward her, seeing that she was staring with the same scared expression on her face, at Officer Walker, who was know gasping for breath.
"We have to do something." I finished for her. She slowly moved her head up and down, nodding her approval. But she stayed stuck, her fear keeping her immobile in its grip. I understood, and empathized. But I no longer stood around.
I was still frightened beyond my wits, and I certainly did not want to end up like Officer Walker was now, but at the same time...I couldn't let him die in vain. I couldn't let him die with his blood on my hands. Because he had tried helping me when Incubus turned to me.
Taking a hesitant step forward, I peeled my body away from the metal that I had been stuck to. I breathed in deeply, looking up at Incubus' back. Under his leather jacket, I could see his shoulders were strewn tense, his tension obvious from the way they looked. He didn't turn around as I took another step, looking as if I was avoiding potholes in the ground, or creaky floorboards.
One Hunter turned their gaze to me, tapping the shoulder of the girl who stood beside him. I could see from my peripheral that they were beginning to move from their frozen moulds. We were beginning to awaken, to take a stance. This is what the Hunters were. We fought against evil - literally - to keep the humans it targeted safe.
But one thing that didn't happen in real life - that did happen in movies - was how the villain stayed put until the main character could vanquish them.
Incubus turned around, not waiting to see Officer Walker choke and burn from his own blood. I didn't know what he did, but whatever it was, had turned Officer Walkers very own blood into fire. And it was killing him from the inside where it confined to pump through his veins, to his heart and other organs. And he couldn't even make a sound. Other than gasping and gurgling as the blood spewed past his teeth and into the floor, literally steaming as it hit the white tiles.
"Seriously?" He asked causally, as if we were his friends and he had caught the three of us, in the act of trying to prank him. "I thought you could be better. The other Hunters I had run into before had been a challenge. Unlike you."
"Shut up!" I yelled, surprising myself and everyone in the room. They all snapped their attention to me, like I was a beacon and they could finally hear my calling. They answered back to my calling, spurring to life and moving in closer to Incubus, in a tight circle.
"We are better." One Hunter, a tall girl who looked liked she could punch a grown man's face in, said through her teeth.
"You'll be nothing when we're done with you."
"You'll be begging us for mercy."
"We know what we're doing!"
"You can't scare us anymore!"
"You die, now, demon." I said, my eyes narrowing.
Incubus laughed.
