Incubus' POV
The end was amazing. I took a step back from the last human - a woman - who fell at my feet. Blood. Red. Everywhere... It was almost exhilarating.
"Shit..." Starlight mutters. "It wasn't supposed to be this bad."
"It's not bad." I say, a little breathless at how much blood there was. It was as if the basement had a water leak and there was a mini flood in it. There was literally thick, wet, and still warm blood pooling around my boots, coating them. "It's...good."
"Are you sure you aren't just a vampire?" Starlight asks, staring at the blood all around us.
"If I was, I wouldn't let all this blood go to waste." I reply. I tear my eyes away from the blood-splattered walls and the piles of bodies. "What time is it?"
"How about we count how many people there are first." Starlight counteracts. "It would be good to know."
"Well, we missed one." I say, peering around the darkness to look for the scoundrel who still lived. I could hear his shallow breaths; sense his fear and cowardliness.
"Where...." Starlight wondered, looking all around as well. His little star dust - or whatever it was - was still glowing above our heads, pulsing like tiny blue strobe lights. Some of them even had blood splashed across them which made them look the part even more.
"Let's split. I am not letting one human go tonight." I say, my voice still breathless and my fingers and feet tingling with an unknown sensation. Adrenaline? No, it felt like...power. True power. What I had ached for, way long ago. And now I had it in me, waiting to be used.
But, it wasn't the type of power I was thinking of, oh no. It was actual power. Like, electricity. I realized this when I spotted the human, scrambling amongst the pile of dead bodies. He tried to crawl his way out, and he was almost there, his fingers reaching out to touch the first wooden stair. In a fit of excitement (and anger), I reached out my hand impulsively, as if the power inside had directed me to do so. Starlight and I froze when a crackling bolt of hot, white light struck the man dead.
The electric bolt retreated back to me, as the man spasmed and fell dead, his fingers still touching the wooden panel of the stairs. He had been so close...I threw my head back and laughed in pure happiness. I stared at my fingertips, they were slightly charred. My eyes widened as faint white light began to flow within my hand, growing brighter and more hotter and painful as I concentrated on it. When a tiny circuit of power jolted through my fingers, and I stumbled backward in surprise, Starlight finally clapped.
"Another 'feature' of yours, eh?" He said, smiling. He walked over to me, wrapping an arm around my shoulders. Leading me to the stairs as I continued to peer down in awe at my fingers, Starlight opened the door at the top.
"Incubus, let's go." He said gently, as if prying a curious child away from a dangerous plaything. I looked away from my hand, and up at him. Without saying a word, I followed him up the steps, a distinct cracking sound coming from my boots. I didn't even look down to the dead man's broken fingers as I strolled up into the dim light, blood soaked.
Stepping out into the cold weather once again, I felt like a new man. The blood stuck my clothes to my body, which annoyed me, but other than that, I was as happy as the Devil during a human sacrifice.
"I need to try that out again." I said to Starlight, distractedly.
"Try what? The bloodbath, or that cool new lightning trick?" Starlight questioned, looking at me from the corner of his eyes. We walked in the middle of the quiet road, completely casual, as if being painted red from head to toe in blood was perfectly normal.
"I was thinking the lightening trick, but now that you mention the bloodbath..." I chuckled as Starlight narrowed his eyes at me in disapproval. "Don't worry! I was joking...sort of."
"Incubus..." Starlight warned, but I payed no heed. Because Starlight, who was staring intently at me, didn't see that up ahead there stood someone. Someone I was giddy to see. I left Starlight hanging on his next words as I ran ahead, grinning as I reached the figure who stood alone in front of me.
"Come to collect those souls, cupcake?" I questioned, my smile growing wider as her eyes narrowed. "There's a bunch of them. Think of them as a...a present! From me."
"Don't talk to me." She growled as she began walking away from me. I turned around and followed her with my eyes, seeing Starlight walking closer, a scowl in his face. But it wasn't directed at Anna who walked toward him, but past her, at me. With a quick nod, Starlight acknowledged her as he strolled right past.
"Thanks." Anna spat out at him, clearly aggravated at the extra work we made for her. I grinned wider. Starlight finally reached me, grabbing my arm in a tight grasp. The dull pain from his hold steered me out of the daze I was in as I stared at Anna walk. I squinted down at his white-knuckled hand that gripped my biceps, then up to his face.
"What?" I spat out just like Anna had. He seemed very...pissed off. I didn't know if seeing Anna had caused it, or if it was because of something else - something I did.
"Listen, Incubus..." He growled lowly. I had to be honest, I was shocked at how truly angry he seemed to be. "I've been so patient and nice with you. But I need your respect and help if we are going to be...comrades."
"Whoa, buddy," I replied in a viscous voice, unhooking his fingers from my arm. "You're acting like a pre-teen who just got her first period."
"Don't joke with me, Incubus. I'm done with your jokes." Starlight said through gritted teeth. I didn't step away from him, instead I stared him down until I knew he would crack. He wanted my respect? I didn't give anyone respect! And he would find out soon enough. When he didn't budge or cower away, I flexed my fingers, getting very excited to throw a jaw-crunching punch. But, right before I could gloriously smack his pissy smart-as$ to space, he stepped away.
I was sort of glad he did, but also angry because I really did want to feel his jaw bones crack under my knuckles. To make my point clear, I whispered lowly to him, my voice hard.
"I don't give respect to anyone."
