Incubus' POV
"You what?" I wondered, my voice rising and my breathing coming out faster and shorter. Starlight smiled a pointed, uncharacteristic smile. He nodded his head slowly. Before I even knew what I was doing, I uppercut him, his jaw connecting with my knuckles painfully. His grin melted away into a satisfying twisted frown. His head knocked back and he coughed, spraying black blood everywhere.
"How?" I screamed, my blood pounding through my ears. It was all I heard. The rush of my black blood, and my furious voice. Starlight didn't answer me as he turned his head to face me again. He was scowling, his eyes narrowed and deathly. I had never even thought that Starlight could have such a expression on his face. He was - had - been so kindly. I guess not.
"Answer me!" I yelled into his face, my hair falling into my eyes and my hands quivering. I wrapped them around his hot neck, squeezing enough to make him uncomfortable. He squirmed under my grip. That would have excited me - made me more elated inside, but my anger was too much, too overpowering. All I felt right now was vicious fury. I was not myself. I was worse - somehow.
"Like...this!" Starlight screamed, taking me by surprise as he pushed me backward with a force I didn't know - again - he had in him. I fell backward, my skull hitting the pavement once again with excruciating impact. I groaned but got up to my feet quickly, knowing that an animal that had tricked me into believing it was friendly - but was as wild as me - was lurking around. Posing to kill.
"I ripped out her heart." Starlight growled into the quiet, dark air. "And you were supposed to be next."
"Why?" I roared, a wind kicking up around my feet without my knowledge.
"Because I was the first created!" Starlight screamed a vein pulsing in his reddened throat. "And you two were the last! And yet the Devil came to love you more! He gave you more abilities than he did me! He loved you more! He made you - a reckless miscreant - more stronger than me!"
"You're jealous?" I questioned, all the anger leaving my body. Now I was full with incredulity and annoyance. "That's why you murdered them?"
"Yes. I needed to be His only one again." Starlight replied through gritted teeth. He was circling me, like I was him. We were two wild animals in a cage too small. And I knew that I was going to win this contest on dominance. Like Starlight admitted, I was stronger than him.
"You're pathetic." I growled, my voice low and menacing. It rang through the whole street, carrying in the wind.
"Before you, Succubus and Luna, I was the favourite!" Starlight screamed, edging his way closer to me. "Then, you all showed up one by one and he forgot about me! He treated me like His slave! A servant for you idiots!"
"Shouldn't you be targeting Him then!" I yelled in return. I stepped forward, and a tiny part of me revelled as Starlight - unconsciously - stepped backward immediately.
"By killing you, I will be." Starlight murmured and then, without any sort of indication - not even a little widening of his eyes, or a twitch of his fingers - he lunged forward, toppling me to the ground once more.
I thrashed and hit him multiple times, knowing I hit soft spots as he groaned and moaned. But he didn't relent. He knew he was winning if he was on top - so he didn't waver. Not even when I reached up with one hand and dug a finger into his eye. He screamed shrilly, but didn't let go of me.
He had one hand on my neck, pressing into a fleshy, sensitive part, and the other held down my other arm. I kicked him and struggled to no avail. I felt pathetic. My hand only went slack and dropped from his eyeball, when a wet, hot feeling pooled on my chest. Starlight finally let go of me, getting off of me and looking down as of he was admiring a piece of his art.
Following his gaze, I saw the front of my shirt was wet and sticking to my chest. Because the handle of a dagger protruded from my heart. A feeling I never felt before enveloped me. Pain.
I sputtered and coughed, confusion taking control of my whole being. My anger forgotten, my annoyance and ruthlessness all forgotten, I only payed attention to the handle that stick out from my body. It was almost surreal to me - and that was saying something considering all the stuff I had been through.
The dagger was buried all the up to the handle, making it difficult for me to pull it out, when I tried. I groaned as I gritted my teeth and tried yanking it out. I could feel it moving inside me, scratching at my bones, cutting into tender organs. My heart. My stupid, blackened heart. Starlight had struck right at it. I ripped out her heart...
He had won. He had killed me.
