Incubus' POV
"Incubus!" Starlight yelled as I continued to walk away. "It is about Anna! I'm not lying!" I walked away faster.
"I know something about her..." He trailed off. "It's... I know you'll want to know."
"I don't think I care." I replied viciously. I kept walking, my head lowered to my chest as the cold wind blew at it. My hands were fisted in the pockets of the jacket that smelled of cigarettes, mint and the unfamiliar, unique scent that every human carried. I blinked rapidly, to pull my mind out from the quicksand thoughts I got. They were always worse, random and more persistent when I was distracted.
"Incubus." Starlights voice was right in my ear, his warm breath feeling odd and foreign on my frozen face. He had his hand placed very lightly on my shoulder, barely touching the fabric of the coat. He was cautious of me. Good.
"Then tell me." I said, so quiet that it could have been considered a whisper. "Just tell me so you can leave."
"I..." Starlight began, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of the water, gasping for its breath. "I don't know how to say it."
"Just say it!" I yelled, causing Starlight to to startle and take a step back from me. My head was raised and I was glaring at him despite the cold wind blowing stronger at my face. I couldn't feel my cheeks or nose anymore.
"She was never special to me - just a...a task. An interest. A way for me to ruin a living, waking human." I said, my voice sounding strange to my own ears. I'd never sounded so...pathetic. "An experiment."
"Well, you seemed to have...gotten attached." He replied. "I just thought you'd want to know about her."
"If I was as 'attached' as you think I am, don't you expect that I'd already know this...this news about her?" I questioned, seething. I was at my limit. In any second, I would gladly maul Starlight like a rabid dog.
"Well -"
"No." I interrupted. "Is it just an excuse for you to stay longer? For whatever reason you might have - to stay longer with me?" My teeth were gritted and my eyes were narrowed into slits. "Why would you want to stay longer? Like Luna said: I'm as annoying as toddler."
"Yes, you are. But like a parent, I have come to ignore that part of you and -"
"Stop acting like we're a family!" I screamed, each and every one of my veins throbbing with my anger. "We are demons! We were created by one being - the worse being in the entirety of existence - by fire and blood. We don't do this happy go-lucky, cookie-cutter family act! You're not my father figure - never have been - and I sure as the deepest, darkest pits of Hell don't need you to be!"
"I don't know what I did -!"
"You did a lot of things. Do you want me to remind you of them? It might take us all night." I growled out, my voice and anger burning low again. I had gone to that scary 'calm-angry'.
"You're acting like a angsty teenager!" Starlight yelled, his anger flowing over the brim of his pot. "You're not giving me a chance to speak!"
"That's exactly what I am!" I retorted. "And you don't deserve it! Because guess what? I don't want to even hear your voice!" With an 'argh!' and a brutal shove that made Starlight stagger backward, I turned and marched away so quickly that I didn't even have time to register or move out of the way of the car that was driving straight at me.
The last thing I saw was the two bright headlights and the wide eyes of the frantic and scared driver behind the wheel.
The last thing I felt was all my anger dissipating just as easily and quickly as mist. How stupid... I thought.
The ache and sharp pain that shot through every limb and nerve in my body as the heavy, hot metal of the grill hit me, caused me to blackout immediately. The only thing I saw...were stars.
I didn't even know I could faint.
