Emily sat in front of her mirror pinning her hair so that it was slicked back in a loose bun with a few curls falling from it. She reapplied her makeup, making sure to make to place eyeliner on top of her lid and having it flare to the sides, creating a winged look that also made the grey pop. She applied light coral pink lipstick and smiled at her reflection before making sure her dress was fine. The feathers that had been applied in the back trailed down the long v that ended at the small of her back. There was no way she could wear a bra with this dress without it being seen so she had to do without, which made her only slightly self-conscious. But the dress was incredible, it hugged her frame, accentuating her frame and especially her curves and making her look like Marylyn Monroe—which was how many people perceived her looks.

Her mask had gold beads woven around the eyes and when worn her eyes were highlighted, the grey mixed with the gold perfectly. Emily looked breathtakingly stunning and it was evident that she did when she passed the group of girls sitting around the common room waiting for their dates, they all shot her jealous looks while passing boys did double takes and paused to stare.

“Wow….you look incredible,” Ryan said completely captivated when he appeared beside Emily.

Emily blushed, “thank you Ryan,” he wore black dress robes and his mask was just as black and resembled a fox. “You look dashing.”

Ryan grinned, “let’s go shall we?”

The Great Hall had been transformed, streamers hung in corners or from the statues that lined the ceilings while hundreds of candles in the shape of bats and pumpkins and other festive things hovered above students heads. The night sky was sprinkled with stars as ghosts floated about and students conversed around tables that had been set up and the few tables that now held various snacks and refreshments. Music blasted all around and many students took to dancing or admiring each other’s outfits.

Everyone was dressed up, it was Halloween and the dance was a masquerade after all, and when Emily and Ryan entered the room nearby students stopped their conversations to stare at the two. Off in the distance Emily could see Rory talking with James and Albus, Austin was with Mark and Gerard was talking to a girl in a white dress that reached the floor, but when she turned Emily saw it was Katelyn. She wore a mask that had a mixture of white and pink feathers, Emily noticed that when Katelyn walked her dress flowed behind her and the inside of the dress was pink.

“Looks like everyone’s here,” Ryan smiled, “how about we go dance?”

Emily grinned, taking Ryan’s outstretched hand before he led them through the throng of dancers.

Austin smiled slightly, Emily looked like her old self as she laughed at something Ryan said, it was like none of this had happened. As if she weren’t under a powerful potion.

“Look at that, someone toughed it out and asked her to the dance,” Mark with a grin. “Cunningham is a nice kid.”

“I’m just happy it’s not Sebastian,” Austin commented with a shrug.

“Speaking of which…” Mark pointed to the entrance of the hall. There stood Sebastian in dark green robes and a mask that looked almost painted on. His hair was slicked back as well and it only took Austin a moment before he realized what Sebastian was….a snake. A snake that had obviously spotted his prey and was slithering over to Emily with a furious expression on his face.
