He finished his drink at the water fountain. He then stood back up, regaining his tallness. He wiped the sweat off his forehead and looked over this way. Oh my gosh! What if he comes over here! Sure enough, that's what he was doing.
"Hey, Dytrick." waved Brittany. And by the way, his name is pronounced Dee*Trick.
"Shut up, Dike!" he laughed, "This your girl?" He pointed at me, while looking at Brittany. Wow! He was even hotter close up. I could tell he was actually in the school's basketball uniform. He must have been practicing with the team before school. Wow! So hot! I usually wasn't like this around guys.
"No! I'm not a faggot, if that's your concern! I can't speak for her though! We're only doing this to get out of a detention. The pricinpal thought we were fighting because we were in each other's face, so I told her we were dating! Ha! That's a laugh, and the stupid lady bought it!"
"Are you serious? Wow, I like this school staff. Sounds easy to get away with stuff. Oh, sorry for my sweaty-ness. I'm Dytrick."
His attention was now turned to me. His hand was out, waiting for me to shake it. I didn't know what to say. He was just so smooth and had such a great voice! Way better than last year's guy middle schoolers' voices. They all sounded screechy and cracky. Finally, a guy with a deep voice that sounded like he had at least gone through puberty! Maybe high school wasn't going to be too bad after all! My hand reached for his, and we shook.
"Michelle." I said, thinking that was a cooler way to introduce myself, rather than saying, 'Hi, my name is Michelle.' like I used to last year.
"So are you?" he asked, with his gaze on me.
"Huh, what?" I was confused. I was still half just thinking about the voice.
"Lezbo? Or uh..sorry I mean gay...or lesbian. I don't know what they preferred to be called."
"Oh..no! Definitely not! I don't fly that way. Never have, never will. Ya know what I mean?" Wow! I'm retarded! Did everything I have to say have to come across so nerdy and freshman-y! He definitely wouldn't believe me now! I mean, I sounded like I was trying to over-justify my case! And everyone knows when you do that it looks like you're just trying make excuses!
"Yeah, yeah. I get it." he said, looking at the floor then back up to Brittany.
"Alright, catch you guys later?" he ended the conversation, pointing his strong finger at Brittany then me.
"Hopefully not!" Brittany said.
"Whatever." I said, trying to regain my dignity with a cool response.
He gave Brittany a smerk then held his hand up as a wave. He started to jog backwards, eventually turning to face forward as his jog increased in pace. I guess he was just having a quick break from practice and now had to return.
"No! Did you not hear me the first time?" Brittany began to raise her voice.
"What??! What do you want now?" She was really starting to tick me off!
"He won't be yours! He's unavailable! Off the market! Already has a bitch! Comprende?"
"Shut up!" I said, unknowingly. I was too caught up in my thoughts about Dytrick! He was fiiiiine! Even with sweat!
"Fine. We'll see."
"See what?!" I didn't even want to associate with her at all, and there she is just blabbing away!
"We'll see how bad it hurts you when you get your heart broken from a guy that's already a peice of shit!"
"Oh yeah?" I questioned, ignoring the first part, "Then why are you letting your friend date him?"
"Because she deserves to get her heart broke! She's a piece of trash too! Why should I help someone out that...."
I waited for her to finish what she was saying. I counted the seconds in my head. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Impatiently, I had to figure it out.
"What? What'd she do? Let you get hurt by a guy or something?" I said, looking at the doors at the end of the hall, not realizing the affect on her I had given. No answer. I looked over at her to find that tears were swelling by her eyes, but she denied them the right to fall onto her makeup-covered cheeks.
"Oh... I'm sorry. I didn't know you would get upset and cr-" She broke away from my hand. Her body began to go in another direction, destructing the movement of our two bodies I had began to get used to. Her legs got quicker, and her path became unrecognizeable. I guess she was going to the bathroom to make sure her makeup was okay or maybe to let herself cry in peace. I was sorry. I shouldn't have said anything,....or should I? Afterall, she did bring it up. I was just becoming curious. Sorry, Brittany. I don't know what happened, and I have no idea, but I will find out. That's a promise.
