Gally's POV
I stared into fire. Into the ocean of red, orange and yellow, thinking about Y/N. My beautiful girlfriend. She was in the map room with Minho, mapping out the sections of the maze.
I warned Minho that if he tried anything with her in the maze or map room, he would end up in the slammer. Because I love Y/N.
I was watching the glow of the flames when suddenly, a song came to me. I don't know how it did. I didn't remember ever hearing it before but I knew the song.
It went like this,
Things we lost to the flames
Things we'll never see again
All that we've amassed
Sits before us, shattered into ash
These are the things, the things we lost
The things we lost in the fire fire fire
"Fire!" A glader shouted. I jumped at this. "Yeah the bonfi-" I started but got cut off. "No Gally! There is another fire in the deadheads! This one is out of control! Near the map room!" He shouted at me.
My heart stopped.
"Y/N!!!" I screamed, jumping up and running in the direction of the map room, leaving the bonfire behind me.
I ran as fast as I could, so worried about Y/N. The further I ran, the thicker the smoke got.
Tears stung in my eyes as I thought about Y/N in there, coughing and crying.
Suddenly someone ran into me, knocking me a little. "Get-" I started, but then realised who it was.
Y/N.
"My god you're safe. Babe, babe you're safe. Thank god. Y/N, I love you." I blurted out, wrapping my arms around her. She replied in coughs and splutters, "I love *cough* you too Gal."
"We gotta get outta here c'mon babe." I said, quickly picking her up and carrying her to the 'fire assembly point' that Alby had created.
Just outside the east wall.
When we arrived, I put her down and kissed her, then checked her for any injuries. "I was so scared Gal." She whispered, gripping my hand tight.
"Me too, me too." I whispered. She had a few cuts and scars from running back through the deadheads but apart from that she was fine. And I was so relived.
"Minho!" She suddenly shouted. "I don't know where he is!" She cried. "Babe, tell me what happened." I said, calm but quickly.
"He left to get something and when he was gone I noticed the fire spreading near the map room. I ran." Y/N said, looking sorrowful.
"He's Minho. He'll be fine." I assured her, running my hands through her hair.
Suddenly Alby arrived and quietened everyone. "Thank you all for being calm. Me and Minho have now put out the fire." Alby stated.
Minho came into view and I saw Y/N's look of relief on her face.
"But of course, the ground there is still dangerous and there is a lot of smoke. Please don't enter the deadheads for a full 12 hours. You are now dismissed." Alby said.
As the gladers dispatched, I turned to Y/N and asked, "Wanna go back to the bonfire?"
"I've had enough fire for one day." She laughed. "Can we just go cuddle?" She asked, cutely.
"Of course." I laughed, picking her up again, this time making her giggle.
We made it back to the homestead am just lay in bed, tracing shapes on each other's hands and kissing and cuddling.
It was so calming and peaceful.
That's when the song came back to me,
I was the match and you were the rock
Maybe we started this fire
We sat apart and watched
All we had burned on the pyre
"Gal," Y/N said. "Yeah babe?" I asked, concerned.
"I- I think I might have started that fire." She said, hanging her head down.
"What do you mean?" I asked, confused.
"This morning I went out to get wood for the bonfire. I was carrying some matches and one fell out of my pocket. By the time I realised I dropped one, my hands were full. I didn't think it would catch fire. I'm so sorry Gal." She whispers.
"Shh, it's fine. Nobody got hurt and it wasn't your fault. It's okay." I whispered back.
She nodded.
We continued to lie there cuddling until it was time to get ready for bed. We quickly did so.
Y/N yawned. "Awh I'm tired." She said.
I laughed. "I'm not surprised, running the maze all day. I'm so proud of you." I said.
She blushed a little before closing her eyes.
"Night Y/N. I love you." I whispered, before falling into a deep sleep.
