Chapter 115
"So, what all happened to you?" Melina inquired the next morning. They were still in the car but had crossed the border recently into Canada.
"Well, I broke my ulna in my left arm and a couple smaller bones in that hand," he began, indicating where the breaks were had his cast not been in the way. "Then I damaged my inner ear, and I had a mild concussion."
Melina gaped. "Were you close to the bomb?"
"Yeah, I sat next to America and the bomb was right above him, in the ceiling. I'm just glad no one died in the accident."
She smiled. "Me too. Do you feel any better now that we're in Canada now?"
He looked at her in confusion. "What did you say?"
She repeated herself a little louder.
"Oh, yes, I do. Sorry, I've gone temporarily deaf in my left ear ," he explained, snapping his fingers next to the bandaged ear to prove his point. "Nothing."
"But it is temporary, right?" Melina asked worriedly.
"Yes, it is. If I were a human this would be permanent, but I'm not so there's nothing to worry aboot."
Melina giggled at his accent and magically pulled out a marker. "Let me sign your cast?"
"Sure," he replied, holding it out to her.

"We're going to England, Ama?" Heather and Ariani chorused excitedly. "Why?"
"Daddy needs to get better, so we're all going to stay with him and his brothers in England," Kadi told them, making them jump for joy.
"Yay yay yay yay!"
"Wait, what about Bo and Fifi and Vale?" Heather asked seriously suddenly.
Kadi smirked at the nickname they had given Phoenix. "Vale is going to stay with Russia, and the boys have given this wondrous opportunity to spend some time with their daddy." She picked them up and set them on her hips. "Time to go!"
"Wheeeeeee!"

"Wassup, dudes?" America crowed when his sons walked into the hospital room that day. "Where's your sister, I thought she was gonna be comin' with you two?"
"Oh, umm..." Bo replied nervously. "Well, y'see, Dad..."
"She went to Russia instead," Phoenix stated bluntly.
The smile didn't leave America's face. "Uh huh. No, seriously, where is she?"
"Russia, Dad."
"WHAT?" he exclaimed, trying to get up.
Rayn, who had gone to the restroom and just returned, walked over and pushed him back down onto the hospital bed. "No. Sit, boy."
He pouted. "But my baby girl is all the way in the commie bastard's house and I need to teach him a lesson!" he pleaded with her.
Rayn only laughed and made him stay put before lowering the bed's inclination all the way down so he had no leverage to get up again.
"Hey, lemme up! Rayyyn!"
"Besides, he isn't communist anymore. How many times must we tell you these things?"

"It's so nice to be home," England said with a small smile when he emerged from the car he'd taken with Joy to get to the Kirkland estate. Joy helped him walk up to the front door (he'd broken a leg, after all) and opened it in time to see two red-headed children launch themselves at them both.
