"Hey, Mattie? Where's the maple syrup?" I called while looking in a cabinet down by my feet and by the stove. We had been making pancakes together and now all we needed to find was the syrup.

"I got it, come on to the table," he replied, holding up the leaf-shaped bottle.

"Whoa, lemme see that!" I said in wonder, accepting it and looking it over. "This stuff's better than America's syrup, isn't it."

"What kind of a question is that?" he asked with a little laugh. "Of course it is, I take pride in making the best maple syrup around."

"Woohoo!" I cheered, rushing over to the table and sitting in my place I'd set up. "Wow, I can't wait to eat all this, it looks so good!"

"Dig in, then," Mattie replied, already stacking his plate with three to start out with.

I cheered again and was halfway through chewing my first bite when the phone rang. Canada stood and went over to the cradle, picking up the wireless phone and answering with a gentle "Williams residence."

"Oh, Ontario? Hi, no, no, I'm fine. Yeah, really. Is everything okay? You sound a little- what, repeat that again, please? The UN bombing, okay, a note- who?" He sounded so incredulous and disbelieving, I was suddenly very worried. "ETA? That's- That's impossible, it couldn't have been her! She would never- Alright, I'll call him. Thanks, Ontario. Goodbye." He hung up and immediately set to dialing another number before looking at me.

"Apparently a group claimed responsibility for the bombing. Kadi's group, ETA."

I stared. "What...?"

~~~
"Hold on, slow down, you idiot!" England yelled into the handheld receiver of his cordless phone. "Say that again, and slowly."
"Okay, okay. A group claimed responsibility for the bombing incident. Guess which one?" America said.
England sighed; this was going to bring about a lot of paperwork. "Which one, Alfred?"
"ETA, Kadi's group! Can you believe it?"
England's eyes grew impossibly wide, and he was silent for a time. "...Is that so."
"Yeah, dude! D'ya have any idea where she might be? We need to talk to her, like, pronto."
England glanced around and let his eyes narrow. "I'm at my house, as is she. The only dilemma is that I can't get out of bed at the moment."
"Well call somebody to help you out or something! You still have that Life Alert thing I sent you a couple years ago, right?"
England's expression drooped though he kept his voice angry. "Bloody git, I threw that out! Why would I keep such a thing like that? I'm not that old!"
America laughed, as did a female voice in the background. "Alright, alright, take a chill pill. I got one for China, too, remember? But back to the important stuff! Don't let Kadi get away before we can question her, m'kay?"
England sighed and massaged the bridge of his nose. "Fine, I will see what I can do. Don't expect much, my leg hasn't healed yet."
"See ya!" He hung up promptly and turned back to Rayn just in time to see her fumbling around in her bra like she was looking for something. "U-Uhm... What are you doing?"
"I'm looking for something, obviously," was her cheery reply (she's had orange soda recently). She extracted object after object from her brassier, the first of which being a pen. "I was looking for that!" Then another pen, a pencil, a knife, a quarter, "Oh my god look Alfie a quarter!" she squealed, a ten dollar bill, "Hey, you want this?", and a pop top from a can of soda.
America was completely weirded out. "Wh-Where did all that come from? You don't have a black hole in there, do you?"
Rayn giggled and shook her head, making the short braid by her face fly about. "No, silly, I just keep stuff in here a lot!"
~~~

"Kadi, would you mind explaining something to me?" England said that evening as the adults were seated around the table, eating while the twins were down for a nap.

"And what would that be, Pirate Who's Afraid Of Tweezers?" she inquired with a smirk.

"Care to tell us all why the ETA claimed responsibility for the bombing attack?" England asked, dropping his own little bomb on the group.

All eyes gravitated toward Kadi, whose own gray-green eyes were wide and confused. "What?"

"I was just informed that the ETA have claimed responsibility for the attack," England repeated without a change of tone. He calmly lifted a spoonful of stew into his mouth and ate it before speaking again. "Is this true?"

"Of course it isn't!" she replied strongly. "Why would I do something like that? The only one I'm bombing is.... 5... 4... 3... 2... 1." She's been looking at her watch but grinned madly when her countdown finished. "Spain should be rolling on the ground somewhere, clutching himself, right about now."

"Kadi, you're being serious here?" Shawn asked. "Why would the ETA claim to have done that attack?"

"They didn't do it, I never told them to. Hey, did you guys attack the UN meeting?" she yelled into her phone spontaneously, and a reply in Basque was heard before she closed it. "No, we didn't do it."

"Then... who did?" Joy asked quietly to the air rather than at a particular person.

Silence was all her question met.
