RECAP:

"You mean you can't tell?" he countered mirthfully with a knowing look in his green eyes.

-----------------

Wait, emerald green? Reddish-brown hair? Fairly tanned complexion with an almost invisible smattering of freckles on and around his nose? Smooth chin, straight hairline, front two teeth overlap and are a pain to get food out from between?

"No way..." I whispered, grabbing his face and bringing it down to my level so I could see it better. "You look like me! But with a rectum load more of testosterone!"

"Heh, hit the nail on the head there," he replied while prying himself free. He stuck out a hand to shake. "I'm Alex. I am, in essence, the male version of you."

I accepted the handshake a bit numbly. "Why do you get to be so tall?"

Alex laughed and pulled me into a quick bro-hug. "It's so great to finally meet you, Alice! Kadi's told me a bit, though she insists that your name is 'Melina' of all things."

I literally fought myself to keep a ROFLing fit under control. "Pfffft, she - hahahaha! - she would definitely be calling me that! Ha!"

"How come?" Alex asked curiously.

"It's a long story. But hey, maybe I'll write it down for you," I told him while gently elbowing his side. "It'd be one hell of a read. But how do you kn-"

"Did somebody say "hell"?" a seductively playful version of my voice asked from above us, and we both craned our necks to see. A head of long dark blue hair poked out from behind a standard fluorescent light up there while two huge bat wings spread out from either side of the fixture.

Alex frowned. "Lacey, what are you doing up there?"

"Attending the meeting. What does it look like, hm?" I couldn't see her face or body, but I had an odd feeling about this whole matter. "Leo and I will stay up here, thanks."

"Heh. Don't tell me you're being cautious of Alicia after that last stunt you pulled," Alex goaded with a grin.

"Shut up! The lights are too bright for my tastes, that's all," Lacey defended.

Alex leaned sideways to talk quietly to me. "I would watch yourself around the Sweet Devils if I were you. They're devious. They live in Hell, after all."

"So, that's a real place?" I whispered back, He nodded just as I heard someone behind us yell my name angrily and tackle me in the back.

"What the fuck did you do, 1p? Where are we? I'll kill you, bitch!" Erika shouted while setting to strangle the living daylights out of me.

"E-Erika..." I coughed, trying to pry her hands off of my throat.

"Oi, we don't fight in the meeting room," Alex said dangerously. he grabbed her arm and pulled away one hand locked onto my neck. "Let her go, Erika."

Alex must have applied pressure on Erika's arm because she yelped and released me. I sucked in air raggedly, coughing pitifully. "Don't let it happen again."

The male me helped me to my feet again and the dark spots in my vision cleared. "Alex, what meeting?"

"Hey, if you three are finished, we'd like to get on with the meeting, meow!" someone called, and I finally noticed that the room was way bigger than I originally thought.

A really long and well-polished table stretched through the room's length. I couldn't even count how many chairs there were, that's how long it was. But the strangest things weren't the characteristics of the room; in fact, they were the people sitting in the chairs.
