Chapter 3: Friend in Me

Jailene P.O.V

"Dang, Audrey, where you at now?" I questioned my best friend as she explained the days events. "You where? What are you doing at D's house?" I questioned her thinking I had heard her wrong.

"Stop crying, I'm on my way! I'll be there in about twenty minutes."

Audrey was my girl so naturally I was gonna ride with her. I just wish she would listen to me sometimes. I called Danny because I was about to unload on his ass! He answered on the second ring.

"Yea bae?"

"When were you gonna tell me Danny?"

"Man, what are you talking about?"

"You know damn well what I'm talking about! I known Messiah called your ass and told you what happened!"

"Jailene, why you call me trying to argue about some shit that ain't got nothing to do with neither of us? Stop worrying about other people's shit for a change! If you spend half the energy focused on us than you do on other people, our shit wouldn't be as fucked up as it is."

"So you call yourself trying to check me, huh! I'll tell you one thing, your ass better not be hiding shit from me!"

"Man you need to calm your lil ass down. You coming through or what?"

"I'm headed to my brother's house to check him out right now, I may come by later though"

"A'ight, just hit me up."

As I drove into my brother's neighborhood, I spotted him heading out. I had to beep my horn before I reached the guard's gate to flag him down.

"Damn, sis, I almost shot right past you, when you get your whip sprayed?"

"Danny got it done about a week ago..." He went all out. He got my Infiniti painted baby blue and put some custom made Ashanti rims on.

"Oh, word, that's whats up. I ain't gonna hold you up, I got some plays to make, besides Audrey needs you right now."

"Alright bro, be safe, I love you!"

"Love you too, lil sis." Seeing my big brother always puts a smile on my face. That dude was my heart. I guess he finally said fuck Messiah! I was gonna check his ass too, since he wanted to run game on Audrey. She was too good of a person to be dealing with his foolishness. She needed this wake up call though and now maybe her ass won't be so gullible moving forward.

When I made it into the house, I called out to Audrey several times, but I didn't get a response. I knew this heffa heard me. I checked the one place I figured she would be and bingo, there she was in the kitchen stuffing her face.

"Gimme some,"l giggled, taking her headphones out of her ears.

She looked at me and my heart sank! I grabbed her in a big hug and we cried together. When she's hurting, so am I. We had such a close bond and I stayed ready to pop off on somebody about her.

"You know Danny probably knew all this time," I told her.

"Of course he did, Jai. Apparently a whole lot of people knew. I can't fault Danny because he's loyal to Messiah! You would have kept stuff on the low, too, if it was me in the wrong!"

"I guess you're right, but that still doesn't mean I have to like his ass right now! Enough of this depressing shit, you gonna sit here and cry all day over spilled milk?"

"Nah, Jai, no more tears. I'm all cried out! If anything I'm just scared now."

"For what? You know damn well you not in this alone. Long as I got breath in my body, you will never be alone and if Ant and Nick don't kill you, you know they got you, too," I said, trying to be funny.

"OMG, don't remind me. I feel like a charity case right now. I'm 19, about to graduate, I'm pregnant, and to top it all off, I fell in love with somebody that has another life I knew nothing about."

" You can't help who you love, Audrey. Messiah fooled all of us, Lord knows when I see him, I'm going dead in on his ass."

"You need to sit your lil ratchet ass down," I giggled.

"I'm glad to see you laughing."

"What am I gonna do, Jai?"

"What you not gonna do is keeping sitting here stressing about this. Let it go! Now on a more positive note, what you and D got going on?"

"Not a damn thing, Jailene!"

"Ummmm Hmmmm! Keep playing, he gonna snatch ya lil ass up."

"Girl bye! I'm tryna focus on me right now, but he did tell me he wanted more than a friendship and that he would be there for me and the baby."

"You know my brother is always a man of his word, if he said it, he's gonna do it. I just can't believe he finally told you that he was feeling you."

"So, you knew he had a thing for me all this time? and you didn't tell me?"

"Even if I did tell you, you were too stuck on Messiah to even care." We needed this heart to heart! Task accomplished; I boasted to myself.

A little after six, we were studying for exams. My phone started ringing back to back. I already knew who it was by Ace Hood's I need your love ringtone, but I continued to ignore the call.

"Damn, Jai, will you just answer the phone, maybe they'll stop calling! Who is it anyway?" Audrey asked.

"Nobody," I said with a sly grin.

"Okay! I got your 'nobody'," she said, throwing a chip at me.

"I'm about to change clothes," I told her as i raced up the stairs trying to answer the phone before the caller hung up.

"Hello?"

"What up doe?"

"You tell me!"

"You keeping it tight for me?"

"Seriously, Ant, why are you stalking my phone like this?"

"I'm tryna see you!"

"Ant, I seriously don't have time for this mess right now, you know i'm with Danny."

"Yeah, and what that got to do with me? Fuck Danny!"

"Ant, I can't keep living like this. All this sneaking and creeping, I didn't sign up for that shit. You ain't never gonna leave Melanie. That's where your family is at and I ain't tryna be a home wrecker."

"Jailene, I ain't tryna hear none of this shit you are talking right now, you still my baby. Aye, but for real, why didn't you tell me Audrey was pregnant?"

"I didn't know I was required to tell you Ant, who told you anyway?"

"Does it matter? Just know that I know. You need to dead that shit you got with Danny right now. I don't take too kindly to sharing what's mine!" he yelled as he hung up in my ear.

"Hello? Helloooo?"

I took a look at the phone and sure enough, he had hung up on me. What was this, let's check Jailene day? SMH. I do need to be real with myself, though. I care about Danny, but I love Ant.
