Stumbling Through It {C.H}

Chapter 6

"So I'm just gonna be in the basement with the guys if you need me." Calum told me as I arrived at his house, Tuesday.

"Alrighty." I walked into the kitchen to where Daniel was eating a slice of pizza.

"Hi Ewwiee!" Daniel tried speaking through a full mouth.

"Hi Daniel! How's that pizza?" He gave me a thumbs up. He finished his lunch before jumping out of his seat.

"Let's play outside!" He pulled me out into the expansive backyard. There was a pool, a patio, and a a play section for Daniel, complete with a swing set and treehouse.

"Can we go swimming?" He pointed to the pool, but I shook my head.

"Sorry buddy, I don't have a swimsuit. Maybe next time. How about I push you on the swings?" I offered instead.

"Okay!" He gave me a chipper nod.

He played on the swing set for awhile, swinging, going down the side, and attempting to do the monkey bars while I held him up.

"Let's play tag!" Daniel said, as he emerged from the bottom of the tube slide, "You're it!" He tapped my back before running away.

"Oooh I'm gonna get you!" We chased after each other for a while before I got tired, "Okay I'm pooped," He giggled at my choice of words. "Let's go inside now."

We walked through the sliding glass door into the kitchen. All of the guys were gathered there getting food and drinks, while talking.

"-I mean I'm happy she's pregnant, but we aren't getting married for a few more months, so I'm not sure what people will think." Michael spoke, taking a sip of his drink.

I escorted Daniel to his playroom, but I could still overhear them talking.

"Eh I'm sure it will be fine. Just don't tell your parents until after the wedding. She won't be showing by then, so no one will notice." I heard Calum say.

I couldn't help but listen a little, it was pretty interesting.

"Katie and I have considered having kids soon." Luke said, "I hope they are as good as Daniel is."

"Oh yeah, Daniel's an angel. I hope my kids are as easy as him." Ashton agreed.

Daniel smiled upon hearing his name. I squeezed his shoulder.

"Yeah, he really is great..." Their voices faded away as they went back to the basement.

"I'm an angel!" Daniel bragged.

So how'd it go?

I got a text from Cami after I got home from babysitting. I took a seat on my couch before replying.

Good! Daniel is always so great to babysit

Cami
Now how were the guys ;) ??

Ellie
Lol they were good too. They stayed in the basement most of the time but they did come up for food and I heard that Michael's fiancé is pregnant

Oooooh niceee!!

Ellie
Haha yeah but that's about it

Cami
Wanna hang out 2morrow?

Ellie
Sure I get out of work at 4. We can go to my apartment.

Cami
Kk see you then!

"The skateboards are in the back of the store on the left." I pointed a family in the right direction. They thanked me before heading the way I told them. I went back to stocking the board game shelves when someone started to talk to me.

"Excuse me, could you tell me where the Barbies are?" A familiar voice asked, stifling a laugh.

I turned around to see my best friend, "Cami! What are you doing here?" I asked giving her a hug.

"Oh I just thought I would surprise you. You get off in five minutes, right?"

"Yep, you can stay with me until then. I just have to shelve these." I pointed to the box of games.

"So how do you like working at Toys-R-Us?" She inquired, looking around the isle.

"Meh, it's work. I don't get much money or anything like that. But I scrape by." I shrugged.

"You always wanted to be a journalist. What happened?"

"I still do, I definitely don't want to be working here for a career, but I only just graduated college a year ago, it takes time." I told her.

"Oh, well I think you should keep trying." She encouraged me.

"I will. But for now I am stuck with this." I sighed, placing the last box on the shelf, "Alright, let's go."
