Everyone in the car was quiet for the ride home.
We all made it back to my house. It was 9:47 at night; quite a long day.

"Should I park here?" Oli asked me.
She pulled into the visitors spot which was a bit far from the entrance of my flat.

"Yeah sure." I said.
She parked the car and sat there for a moment before turning around to face Dan and I.

"That fucking sucked." She said.

I put my arm around Dan in a way where Oli couldn't call it out.

"I know." Dan said; relieved.

"It's taken care of, Rodrick is going to be in jail for a really long time, and Dahlia should be okay."

There was a silent pause before everyone got out of the car.
I got Dan's bags before making our way up the steps.

"I'm sorry you had to deal with that." Oli said to Dan as we all entered my apartment.

"It's okay, well, it's not okay, but thank you." Dan said while rubbing his arm up and down nervously.
Never really saw this side of him. He stayed pretty close to me which I had no problem with.

Every one was clustered in the hallway before Oli and Dan went and sat on the couch together. I was in the kitchen brewing tea for all of us.

After the tea was made I went out to the lounge to be with Oli and Dan.

They were both chatting away and I placed both cup on the coffee table.

"Are you sure you're alright?" I heard Oli ask Dan.
His face was pale white, and his lips were really red, almost as if he had lipstick on. I put the tea tray down and crouched next to him, holding his face in my hands.
"Did you take your medicine today?" I asked him.
He nodded. I exhaled relieved.

"Drink this, please." I said as I brought the tea cup to his lips.
He slowly sipped from the cup, the color was coming back to his face a bit. I grappled my tea cup and took a seat in the lounge chair next to Dan.

"Well today was dramatic, I'm glad nobody got hurt..." Oli said.

"Dahlia did." Dan replied after putting his cup on the table.

"I mean...us"

I felt the tension rising.

"Well it's over with now, it's done. We really don't have to talk about it anymore." I said. My heart was beating hard and I felt myself getting frustrated.

"You're right." Oli said as she lifted her bag off the ground to check her phone.

I checked the time, it was already 11:19 at night.
I was getting tired and I'm sure that Dan was too after all this excitement today.

"Shall I go then?" Oli suggested.

"I think it would be best, we all had a long day."

Dan sat silent in the crook of the couch sipping his tea. He didn't want to speak. He wanted to be with me. He was done talking about what happened today; I would be too if I went through that. Witnessing one of my best friends getting beat up by their jacked boyfriend. I'd be heartbroken, but I would do something about it.
It made me sick that things like domestic violence still go on today. This was my first time seeing it too.

Oli left. It was just Dan and I now.

"Hey." I said as I sat down next to him.

"Hi" He answered as he put his cup down.

There was silence. Dan moved himself out of the corner of the couch and into me. He wrapped his arms around me and buried his face into my neck.
I rested my cheek against his head and rubbed his back up and down.
I knew that this was one of his weakest moments. It was a different kind of intimacy that I was experiencing right now. It wasn't sexual it was something my significant other needed.
My heart dropped at what I had just thought.
