I know it's ironic to have a rant about not believing the TV and then to come out with this but I still want to do it.
I love watching beyond scared straight clips but all they really teach me is that this country is in dire need of prison reform.
and even if it is scripted, there are still countless real life stories of how the prison system has killed innocent people (like Michael Saffioti).
prison shouldn't be only a punishment. it should also be a place of reform. a lot of times non violent criminals go to jail and are around even worse criminals. they get out and are worse than when they went in. not to mention the institutional racism that plagues that court and keeps black people in prison longer than white people.
