The next day was the same. Naruto and I stayed out late until we mastered tree climbing. "So, your finally back. Looking like something the cat dragged in!" Tazuna said as we walked in. I had to hold Naruto up or he wouldn’t make it back, him making fun of us wasn’t helping. Naruto smiled.
"Heh... Both of us..." Naruto started.
‘I TOLD you if you didn’t take a break you’d wear yourself out, you dope.’ I thought
"We made it to the top of the tree." he finished.
"Good!" Kakashi said, looking up. "Naruto, Sasuke, starting tomorrow you can help Sakura protect Mr. Tazuna."
"Yes, sir!" Naruto yelled in my ear.
"Father you and Naruto are two of a kind. Please don’t work yourselves to death!" His daughter complained. Tazuna agreed and Naruto fell onto the table. Inari just stared at Naruto. It wasn’t long before he started to cry.
"What’s wrong?" Naruto asked. Inari stood up and slammed his hands on the table.
"Why do you wear yourself out trying? No matter how hard you train, you’ll never be a match for Gato’s thugs! You act all cool, and you talk all tough... but big, strong guys like that are always too much for people weaker then they are. They’ll destroy you!!" Inari screamed. We were all quiet but Naruto spoke first.
"Shut up! I’m not you, and I’m not gonna lose!"
"Just watching you ticks me off! You go running your mouth when you don’t know a thing! This isn’t you town! And you don’t know a thing about me you’re always clowning around and having fun. You don’t know a thing about suffering or loneliness or what my life is like!" Wow. If only he knew how wrong he was.
"So..." Naruto was as calm as ever, "You figure it’s noble to star in a melodrama and treat every one around you like guest at your pity party?" Naruto snapped, his face twisted. "It takes a really big man to sit around and cry...you brat! You big baby!!" That made Inari speechless and he started to cry harder. "We lost a comrade, a close friend, and do you see us crying?!"
"Naruto! You went to far!" Sakura yelled as Naruto walked away.
Kakashi’s POV
I walked outside to find Inari, sitting over the edge, crying. " May I join you...?" I asked. I didn’t wait for him to answer and just sat down next to him. "You know, Naruto’s kind of a brat, but he wasn’t trying to be mean of hateful... He just... lacks finesse..."-He didn’t say anything.-"Mr. Tazuna told us about what happened to your father. Naruto grew up without a father, same as you. Actually he grew up without any parents. He doesn’t remember either one of them..."-that got his attention-"And in all the time I’ve known him he’s never cried. Naruto probably knows you better then the rest of us."
"Well, take care of Naruto!" I called. "He’s worn himself out. I doubt he’ll be able to move for the rest of the day."
"We’re off, Tsunami." Tazuna said only to be replied with a ‘bye’. After that we all (but Naruto) walked to the bridge.
"Kakashi-sensei?" I ‘hm’ ed. "Do you think she’ll come back before we leave? It’s been days now and there’s been no sign of her... I’m... I’m worried."Sakura looked sad.
"I’m not sure." Was all I could say.
When we got there, the remanding workers where on the ground and not in good shape. They said monsters attacked them. "They’re coming!" I yelled and everyone fell into formation.
