Prologue:
He hid amongst the dark shadows, his onyx eyes were calculating her next move. Fang intently watched as Max was calculating her own decision. Dylan's face was not but mere inches from Maximum's, in preparation for what Fang knew was coming next. The shadow cloaked teen saw Max's eyes: full of emotion and confusion, but Fang also knew that her eyes also held a note of desire that the brunette girl refused to release. But Fang knew Max better than that, he had learned to read her.
Max finally made a move that made Fang cringe and turn away. Max leaned up, allowing her lips to meet Dylan's. That was it. She had chosen apparently, and as much as Fang had wanted to knock some sense into Maximum Ride's head, he wasn't going to. She had chosen, and who was Fang to intercept her decision? Very slowly and stealthily, he snuck off and took a running start and then stopped.
"I think i'll walk back." He said aloud, deciding to no one but himself.

Fang made his way “home”. It wasn’t really his, more like Mrs. Martinez’ home, but for now it was his temporary home. He walked through the door to see Gazzy and Iggy playing some sort of video game.
“Hey Fang.” Gazzy said, half acknowledging the dark haired boy.
“Hey Gasman.” Fang said plainly. He walked to his room and weighed his possibilities, stay, or leave? Fang flopped down on the bed and sighed. He would leave, it was for the best.
A good ten minutes of concentration was made before Gasman and Iggy stormed in.
“Hey Fan-“ Gazzy was cut off by the in thought look that Fang had.
“What’s wrong?” Iggy asked, sensing the awkward tension.
“I-,” Fang started, but his voice gave out. He cleared his throat and tried again, “Leaving. I’m leaving.” Was all he managed to choke out. Realization hit him. Leaving his flock.
“You mean..” Iggy didn’t even have to finish the sentence. Fang’s eyes showed that the decision between he and Max was made.
“Yeah.” Fang mumbled. There were a few moments of stale silence before Iggy spoke up.
“Then I’m coming too.” Iggy said.
“Really?” Fang asked, surprised. Iggy nodded.
“Me too.” Gazzy said, clasping his hands happily. It took a moment for Fang to register this. He slowly sat up from his relaxed position as he heard Max and Dylan opening the front door.
“One thing left to do then.” Fang said, clearing his throat once more.
“What’s that?” Gazzy asked.
“Tell Max.” Iggy and Fang replied simultaneously.
“You want to what??” Max all but screeched.
“Leave.” All three boys said. Max’s eyes bore into Fang’s coal ones. She knew for a fact that Fang had something to do with this. Iggy and Gazzy wouldn’t just want to up and leave for no reason, so what was this all about? Maximum Ride had yet to get to the bottom of all of it.
“You…I mean.. what?!” Max was at a loss for words.
“We want to leave the flock.” Fang stated, simply put. Angel, who stood next to Max for the moment, nodded at Fang’s gesture as she read his most obvious thoughts.
“It’s time, Max.” Angel said, her blue eyes were full of sympathy as she patted Max’s hand gently. Max pulled her hand back.
“Oh no not all THIS again.” Max groaned.
“No. In a way, Angel is right.” Fang said quietly.
“What?” Max screeched again.
“All I’m saying is maybe we knew it all along. We knew this was going to happen, but neither of us wanted it to, so we turned a blind eye to it. But now,” Fang said, eyeing Dylan cautiously, “Now, we can’t run from it anymore, its-“
“For the best right?” Max finished for him, biting back bitter tears. Fang nodded, averting his eyes from hers.
“Alright then,” Max said, straightening up, “Who wants to go where?”
“I want to go with Fang.” Iggy said.
“Me too. Sorry Max.” Gazzy said softly.
“I want to stay with you, Max.” Nudge said
“I’ll stay.” Dylan managed to speak up.
“I want to go with Fang.” Angel spoke up. Gasman’s face relaxed; at least he wouldn’t have to leave his sister. Max stared at Angel for a while and then turned her attention back to Fang.
“Happy? Got what you wanted.” Max said in a biting tone.
“It’s not about what I want. It’s about what’s best.” Fang reminded her. Max rolled her eyes and flipped around, storming out through the door which she came not twenty minutes ago. Fang sighed and turned to Angel and the boys.
“We leave at dawn.” Fang mumbled.
