Chapter Five - "I've Been Hiding From You"

☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼

With May right around the corner, a couple of weeks had gone by and it was a Thursday morning before school. My junior year of high school was coming to an end, and within another month and a half, I'd be done. Then I'd be a senior.

Scary.

"Bye Mom!" I called as I opened the front door to leave.

"Have a good day!" She yelled from the kitchen. I shut the door behind me after I heard her and walked to my car, hopping in and waiting for Justin to arrive.

I scrolled aimlessly through my morning Instagram feed while I waited for him, and a few minutes later, he plopped down in shotgun out of breath.

"Hey," he sighed.

"Hi," I smiled in return, starting my car and backing out of my driveway. "How are you on this lovely morning?"

"Just great," he chuckled.

The weather we'd been having for the past few weeks had been amazing, and it was only going to get warmer as it got closer to summer, which I wasn't complaining about. I'd always been more of a summer person anyway.

"Since we're a couple minutes early, I'm stopping at Dunkin'," I glanced at the clock on my dashboard, stopping at a red light.

"That's fine," he shrugged.

A few minutes later, I pulled my car into the lot and waited in the drive-thru until it was finally my turn and I could get my beloved coffee that I would die without.

Okay, maybe die was a little dramatic. But it really helped me get through the day, especially if I was feeling really exhausted.

"Hi, yeah, can I get a medium french vanilla swirl iced coffee? Cream and sugar," I spilled out my order to the call-box when it was my turn.

"Sure. Anything else?" The voice said back.

"Want anything?" I turned to Justin. He was intently looking at the menu board in front of us, and then leaned over me and stuck his head out my window.

"And a sausage, egg and cheese on an english muffin," he shouted to the call-box. Or more so to my face.

I laughed and pushed him off me, leaning out my window again.

"Anything else?"

"No, that's it," I smiled.

"Five eighty-two, pull up please." And I did what I was told.

"Did you eat this morning?" I asked Justin.

He made some sort of a noise that was a cross between "nah" and "yeah" for an answer and shrugged his shoulders. "Kinda. My mom made me a smoothie."

"A smoothie? That's random," I chuckled.

"Yeah, she got some new smoothie maker thing over the weekend and she's all excited about it. She uses it to make her health drinks and all that shit, so she hasn't stopped making Chad and I smoothies. My dad doesn't like them so she just ignores him," he explained.

Chad was Justin's sixteen-year-old brother who looked almost identical to Justin. He just got his license and he was literally adorable. I'd known him since he was born and he was like a little brother to me. I always had the hope that him and Melissa would fall in love and get married one day, since they're both around the same age and nearly perfect for each other, but they were never into the idea.
