I saw the chance while everybody was mingling with each other. I scanned the crowd and I quietly swept through the crowd, as I prayed no one had spotted me. After I was out of the extravagant ball room, I fast walked to my chambers, trying to not look suspicious. I shut the door as I glanced around my spacious chambers.
The silky drapes were dancing while the wind rustled through my room. I felt my heart beat faster. Someone had opened my balcony door. I suspiciously glanced around my room, but everything was in its place, no sign of anyone in here.
What if someone is waiting for you to come near the washroom and jumps out with a bloody knife to slit your throat? The voice in my head whispered sending chills to my back.
No, I needed to think rationally. It might have been Lizzy, the maid, airing the room and forgot to shut the balcony doors. I'm being paranoid and I'm wasting time. Time was a dangerous clock, which everybody wanted more of. I shook off the jittery feeling and grabbed a small passenger bag, and packed some clothes and necessities. If someone was planning to assassinate me, well they can go ahead and high 5 themselves. It would be better if they actually came tomorrow night, because I would pity them. Too bad that I would be long gone by tonight and tomorrow they'll be welcomed to an empty deserted room.
I signed as I debated leaving a note to Xander, but I didn't want to take the chance of being tracked or followed. I changed into some dark trousers and into a white long sleeved dress shirt that was tucked into the trousers. I pulled on some combat boots and a dark sweater. My long hair was still loose and I didn't mind.
Now, the most important part; my plan. I sprinted into my walk in closet and grabbed the sturdy braided long rope that I had smuggled along with me into the palace. Couple weeks ago, the idea had struck me, (escaping), but I was unsure and hesitant. But now I was 100% sure of what I was doing.
I tied the rope onto my balcony and tied it onto a double knot. I pulled on it making sure it wouldn't betray me. I pulled on some leather gloves and glanced around the balcony view. It was secure. It was now, or never. The memory of Jamie clouded my thoughts; Yes, I'd do this for Jamie.
I climbed onto the balcony's railing as i held the rope with my hand. My legs let go as i dangerously hung onto the rope. My legs wrapped themselves onto the rope as I slid down. After going down 3 stories I was finally onto the ground. I snatched out my bow and arrow and tied the end of the rope onto the arrow. I positioned the bow and the arrow, to shoot across onto my balcony. I let go of the stings and the arrow and the rope flung across and over my balcony. Now, the rope wasn't dangling, it was safe to go. No one would of ever guessed that I had used the rope to get down. I stuffed the bow into my pack and sprinted into what looked like the dark and ominous woods.
The full moon hung in the sky proudly and ironically was the only thing giving me light to see my path way into these woods. I could barely see anything but I kept going. I ran for 10 minutes straight. I turned around and the palace was nowhere to be seen. I slowed down my pace catching my breath. Suddenly, my foot caught onto some vines and I tripped. I yelped as I landed onto my face.
Howls suddenly echoed in response as I heard the bushes rustle. Crap, they had heard me. I cursed myself inwardly as i scrambled to my feet grabbing the knife I hid in my sweater. I glanced around barely seeing anything. My instincts screamed for me to take Flight! It was my Fight or Flight Reaction. Should I be standing here waiting paralyzed with fear, or continue?
