My breaths were the only things I felt heaving through my lungs like poison. My heart was the only thing I heard thud in my ears.
Wiping the sweat off my palms, I grabbed a fistful of my gown and continued waiting. Glancing at the clock, my foot started tapping impatiently.
Focus Rae, five minutes is left till arrivals.
No matter the constant reminder from my conscious, to snap out of my thoughts, my mind would flicker to the images of last night.
The bomb. The debris. The blood. The Destruction....
Liam.
I had left him dying out on the pavement. I cursed myself inwardly. What happened to the oath I pledged to? The oath that bonded me the moment any one hurt crossed my path.
I was gifted with an affinity. I promised to use it for the good and when it was needed. Images of yesterday haunted me every second I stood here. It was my fault it all happened.
How could I ever be the coward I was yesterday? I fled and left him... He shouldn't have taken the hit for me. I wasn't worth it. In return, what did I offer or give?
I might have snorted.... I did nothing.
Not a word of who was injured. Or even what truly had happened.
The queen released a statement that night because the prince was too drunk to even comprehend what was happening or who he was, might I say.
Her words rang through my ears.
...No threats from impostors or such. It was just a minor mishap. One of the workers mistook one of the fire work boxes with a small explosive that was aimed in the sky, of course. Meanwhile, one of the palace's staff forgot a tea kettle, and a fire arose.....No injuries or any deaths.
Just those words out of the sweet and reassuring 10 minute talk of shit.
No one injured? Then the duke must have passed, if the queen released that statement that night. She didn't want to array any havoc, so she would wait until the king arrived back, and let him announce the passing of the duke, which was of course, by some medical disease.....or maybe a simple cardiac arrest. It would be all planned, so that the people wouldn't react. No one would question the king about a cardiac arrest....
Just wait if someone requests an autopsy and what the royals would come up with.
After her statement, she released another, commanding all nominees returning to the palace immediately, the next day.
Here I was standing, trying to take off my mind of Liam and all the guilt that surged through me. I was here trying to be a good reliable friend. I was waiting for Ashley's arrival just to greet her and waste my time, thinking about what could have happened after my escape.
Another wave of nervousness hit me just as the arrival bell rang. From the side of my eye, I see the Royal Prince walking my way to greet the arrivals. Xander rubbed his eyes, as a yawn escaped his mouth. Typical for princes like him to get wasted... I bet that the maids rubbed some concealer under his eyes, just for the sake of his appearance.
I ignore his presence and ran to welcome the first arrival, which was Trisha. Behind her, strolled two men carrying three suitcases, and other luggage. Wait, for a week of time, she hauled 7 bags in total with her? In her hands rested her purse and five present looking bags. I scowled, as she squealed when she saw me.
