Chapter 17

Melanie's POV

Poor Mitch. He's so heartbroken. I pull a blanket over him and kiss him on the forehead. He was always a son to me just like Damon Jr. used to be. I sigh. Tomorrow is going to mark the 23rd year of his death. Can't believe it's been 23 years already. I miss him. Why did Lillian do such a thing to such a nice young lad? 

"Why would she do such a thing, Melanie?" Damon asks from behind me. I turn to him and see he has tears in his eyes.

"I don't know but I'm going to find out." I say and go upstairs and pack my things when I hear Melody crying. I groan. She cries way too much. I make my way over to her cot and pick her up shushing her. After 10 minutes, she starts smiling and giggling. I look at her confused. What goes on in her silly little head? I shake my head and put her back in her cot. I grab my things then head downstairs. I see Damon at the bottom of the stairs.

"You can't just leave, Mel. I can't look after a kid on my own." He says. He's right. I haven't left him alone with any of the kids. I sigh and put my stuff down. I run into his arms and he holds me up by my waist. 

"I love you, Melanie." He says.

"I love you too, DayDay." I say giggling. 

"You know I hate that nickname. Don't call me that again." He replies.

"Sorry DayDay." I smirk. 

"Ok. That's it." He says and the next thing I know is that I'm being tickled. 

"No! No! No! Stop!" I scream giggling.

"Stop calling me DayDay then."

"OK! OK! I promise!" I scream giggling again. Damon stops and I just stay there catching my breath. How dare he do that? I playfully glare at him and huff crossing my arms and walking past him into the living room where Mitch was on the couch. I go and stroke his hair. I wish I could help. I grab my phone and call Lillian. She doesn't answer and I leaver her a voicemail that says.

"Hey Lil. I need to talk to you and I need you to come home. Call me when you get this." I hang up and sigh. What has gone on?
