Chapter 17 Hazels Family Dinner

Ever since I moved here my parents have been making friends with some of my schoolmates parents at my school. My parents said they are inviting a couple with their son who goes to my school but they don't know his name. They say they heard so many good things about him and think I should go to the prom with him not Jeydon. I've been fighting with them so much about it. I really wish I could skip the dinner and hangout with Jey but they won't let me.
Anyway they will be here in a hour so I have to get ready. I put on a black spaghetti strap tank top and a black flowy chiffon short skirt with black plain silk stockings and short black combat boots. I put on my new makeup products from Sephora and I wear my hair straight and plain.
As I sit on the couch in the living room and text my friends and boyfriend I hear a knock on the door. My parents yell for me to answer it and I roll my eyes as I get up from the couch. I walk over to the door and I take a deep breath before opening it. I open it and I see who it is.

Gavin.

"Hazel. Hi my parents didn't know who you were and then I saw the house and knew its you." Gavin said.

I let them inside and Gavin's mom runs to the kitchen to hug my mom. My dad talks to Gavin's dad about sports in the bar area. Hazel sits with her younger siblings and Gavin on the two couches. Kathrine and Tommy fight over the food my mom has out. Kevin is at a "football" meeting, actually he's out with his friends, and my parents easily let him get out the dinner. I cross my arms and legs and stare at my siblings fighting. I'm so mad right now. I don't want to look at Gavin I know I said I'm over it but I hate what I did and I don't want to be reminded by it.

"So Hazel your mom has told me that you are in the drama club?" Gavin's mom asked me.

I nodded my head, "Yes I am well I'm not in the play but I'm in the back stage crew and I'm Sabrina's main role under study."

"That's so good to hear. Did you know Gavin here is the male under study?"

I squinted my eyes. "What? I didn't know that."

"Yeah sorry my friends bet me to join." Gavin said.

I let it go and get up to go to my room. I call Jeydon and talk to him for a while. I don't tell him about who the boy is that came over. We talk about the dance.

"I actually don't know if I can make prom Haz..." He says disappointingly.

I frown. "Why Jey?"

"Well my dad was going to take me to a NASCAR race then. And I only see him every few months."

I roll my eyes. "Oh okay. It's just some stupid old dance."

"I'm really sorry Hazel. I will make it up for you I will make it up to you I swear."

I tell him I have to go down to dinner. If I don't go with him I know my parents will force me to go with Gavin. This is totally not fair. I try not to think about it during dinner. I just sat their quietly.
