(8 weeks till Graduation)
Kitty looks at the picture of Finn, turns it around and looks at the little note on the back of the picture.
She's been doing that since 5 minutes and its really getting on my nerves watching her turning the piece of paper every second.
Its 9pm and right after i found the picture on my bed i called her, knowing that i have to tell her now that i was at the prison, meeting him again but thats no problem anymore.
"So he gave that to you?", Kitty asks and lays the picture back on my bed.
I nod. "Yeah ... well he didnt give it to me. It was on my bed. He must have gotten into my room somehow."
She raises her eyebrowns. "That sounds pretty creepy."
"It does.", i response, being completely serious.
But isnt everything that includes Finn somehow creepy? I mean why would a boy who barely knows me send me a picture of him with the note that he loves me? It doesnt make any sense.
Kitty shakes her head. "In my opinion you should really leave him alone for a while. I dont want you to get hurt Rach."
Get hurt? Oh well yeah not getting hurt in the 'i put a knife through your heart' more like the 'my heart broke into a million pieces'. Funny because it already did.
"I cant just stop meeting him now Kitty. There is something and i just have to figure what it is exactly." I breathe faster than normally being completely excited about what i am saying.
Kitty stands up from the chair she is sitting on and shakes her head over and over again. Its pretty annoying seeing her like this but i will have to deal with that.
"Its graduation soon and you want to spend your weeks in a prison talking with a prisoner? Thats crazy!"
"Why dont you get it?! Never did a boy show such an interest in me than Finn! And dont tell me Mike did because i never had feelings for him in any way and kissing me in the hallway wont change anything about this! So just let me be Kitty. Maybe its crazy yes but sometimes its just no risk no fun. Thats what you always tell me. So why cant you support me one time?"
Kitty walks over to the window. "I just cant support you Rachel. Not this time."
Tears stream down my face and i try to control my shivering.
"Then you're dead to me."
This time i dont take the taxi, i go by bus. Theres a bus station 20 minutes away from the prison. I have to walk but maybe those 20 minutes are good for me.
The bus is not very full, maybe like 10 people, but all of them seem to want to go to the prison, just like i want. Are they as desperate as me? Of course they are not. Neither of them fell in love with a prisoner, they fell in love with a person, maybe a person who loves his family, had a job and whatever. They just keep loving the person inside this massive building because they believe that the person they used to fell in love with is still there.
I lean my head against the window, closing my eyes. His picture is in my purse, i keep it with me.
Maybe i was unfair when i quit my friendship with Kitty, maybe she is right with that she can't support me in this case. Would i? Would i support her if it would be her and not me? I try to tell myself that i would, because thats what friends do. But sometimes friends just cant always support each other. What kind of friendship would that be if Kitty would support every choice im making? It would be senseless. And she was just trying to keep me safe, but for now i cant think about that anymore, whatever, i need all my strength to see him again.
The bus stops and i open my eyes, seeing that its the bus station where i have to get off, so i jump up, following the ten people who were in the bus as well.
None of them knows each other, which feels good so im not the complete outsider.
As i walk behind them i think about what i want to tell Finn. This time it doesnt have to end in a drama, im here to get to know him, not even what he did to get into the prison i want to get to know something about his personality. Isnt that important? It is.
"Tell me something about you", i say, holding the telephone tight in my hands.
Finn chuckles and leans his head to the side, his eyes focusing me.
"Tell me something about you.", he replies and now its my turn to chuckle and lean my head to the side.
"I asked first.", i whisper.
Finn strokes through his hair and leans a little forward, like he wants to come closer to me. I follow his example.
"Fine.", he whispers back, then its quiet, like he thinks about what he wants to tell me.
"I used to play football and in the winter basketball. What about you? Do you do any sports?"
"No not really.", i reply, imagining Finn playing football. I once watched our football team, they sucked, and im pretty sure that they still suck.
"You should. Good if you have stress. Which you maybe have since you're graduating this year."
"I am not going to ask why you know that.", i answer and start smiling, which Finn does as well.
"Better if you dont."
I look around to the other people talking next to me. There are only women, as last time but this time no one is crying or screaming, its a nice atmosphere, better than i expected it to be.
"How long have you already been in here?", i ask. Normally i would have been scared if i went too far but this time i feel braver than i ever did before.
Maybe because of the picture he sent me, which i am not going to talk about, because thats what Finn expects of me.
"Almost a year.", Finn responds and by his facial expression i can see that its not a topic he's excited to talk about.
"How long will you stay here?"
"Depends on how my behaviour is. If everything will be alright, im out of here in the next 5 years."
"And is everything going to be alright?", i ask.
Finn shrugs his shoulder. "Maybe. Maybe not. To be honest, i dont really care when i'll come out of here, theres no one outside waiting for me."
I think of Mike, his brother and how he talked about Finn, like he really hates Finn.
Im an only child, i have no idea how it is between brothers, but the relationship between Finn and Mike must be really bad.
"Thats not true. Theres always someone waiting for you."
Finn looks into my eyes and it looks like hes thinking but i have no idea about what.
"I wish that'd he the truth." He looks really sad. Does he really think that theres no one outside there who cares about him? Thats sad. Really sad.
"Im caring about you."
In that moment i would have loved to hold his hand, to touch his face, to break this glass border between us, and just hold him in my arms.
"How can you care about me? You barely know me."
"You're right. And thats why im here. To get to know you. Just let it happen."
The guard on Finn's side leans down to him and whispers something in his ear, which i am not able to hear because Finn covers the telephone.
5 minutes later the conversation is over and Finn looks at me again, like nothing happened.
"Everything alright?", i ask pointing to the guard.
Finn nods. "You're here so yeah."
I smile and look down.
"Dont hide your smile. Its pretty.", Finn whispers.
I automatically look up and i see him much closer to the glass window than before.
"Im not leaving so soon.", i answer. I expect him to smile but he doesnt.
"Dont promise things like that." A sad expression appears on his face. Who is this boy? What did he go through?
" I didnt promise anything.", i reply.
Finn nods but doesnt look me into the eyes. "You're right. You didnt."
The silence between us is weird but also calming.
Talking to him is calming.
But maybe i should have promised him.
So he would know, that im really not going to leave him.
