I was supposed to be meeting a friend at the cafe, but she was running late, which wasn't out of character for her. Bella was my best mate, so it didn't bother me much. What did bother me was that Draco Malfoy had sat down beside me. I couldn't help but laugh. The notion of Draco sitting next to me was a funny one.

I guess I caught his attention because he turned and looked at me. "Hi," he smiled.

"Hi," I said back.

It was just so weird that I was sitting there with Draco. I mean, he never even gave me a second look. One: because I was a Gryffindor. Second: because I was muggleborn. He looked down on girls like me. I know that he called Hermione Granger a mudblood on more than one occasion.

"What is your name?" he asked.

"Hannah Honeyyeager," I sipped my hot chocolate. I know that it was summertime, but I loved hot chocolate in any weather.

He smiled and sipped his latte. "I'm Draco Malfoy."

I smiled. "Well, it's nice to meet you, Draco."

"Not as nice as it is to meet you."

That's when Bella slammed into the seat next me, obviously not in the best mood. I smiled at her as she looked at me and ordered herself a black coffee.

"What's the matter?" I asked her, holding back a smirk.

"It's Gregory. I would've been on time today, but he had to start another fight! I swear, it's what he lives for. He lives to argue with me. This time it was about how I never spend time with him. As if!" she grabbed her coffee and took a sip as she made a face. "Why do I order this when I know that I don't like it?" she said and asked the guy to put cream and suger into it for her.

"Look, I've got to run. Hopefully I'll see you again," Draco said to me before paying for his latee and heading for the door.

"Bye," I said and he waved.

I turned back to Bella, who had a shocked expression on her face. "What?" I shrugged.

"You were talking to Draco Malfoy?" she asked, forgetting all about the troubles with her boyfriend.

I shrugged again. "Not really, we just said hi and that was it."

"No offense or anything, but why was he talking to you? He doesn't talk to Gryffindors like us."

"I don't think he recognized me from Hogwarts. He asked me for my name," I took another sip from my hot chocolate.

"Well, maybe he doesn't know then. Because if he did, he definately would not even talk to you," she said as she stood and grabbed her bag, "Are you coming or not?"

I smiled and paid for my drink, "I'm coming."

When I got home that night, I was not expecting my mum to be home. She's never home unless she needs to be, but I couldn't think of a reason.

"What are you doing home?" I asked her as I passed her at the small kitchen table and made my way for the fridge and pulled out an apple.

"Didn't have the money," she answered in a slirred voice.

No, but you did have the money to pick up some whiskey, didn't you? I thought to myself. I knew she had to had spent money on that because I throw it out as soon as she brings it in the house. I went over to the cookie jar, where I keep my emergency money that I earn at the supermarket down the street. I use it to keep up with the bills and to buy groceries. This time I was going to exchange it for wizard money. I had to get my supplies for school.

But I found it empty. That's where she found the money to buy her precious elixer.

"Mum," I said and slowly to turned to face her, "How could you?"

"How could I what?" she mumbled and took a sip straight from the bottle.

"I had money saved up so I could go to school this fall. You know that why I had it sitting there. You promised not to touch it!" I found myself yelling, something that I had never done to my mother.

"Look, I was out. I needed more. I'll pay you back," she slirred.

I shook my head. "No, you won't. You said that the last time and the time before that. We are behind in the bills and we barely have enough groceries left to live off of. What do you expect me to do? I need to go to school."

"Maybe you'll just drop out, like me."

I slammed the apple down on the counter before stomping out of the kitchen. I headed for my room and packed my bags and trunk. I had had it. I was at the end of my rope. I was out of patience. I was going to leave before I ended up in the same situation.

"Where are you going?" she stumbled into the living room where I was putting on my shoes.

"None of your business," I spat and stood.

"I think it is, seeing as how I'm your mother."

I narrowed my eyes at her. "Fiona," I called her by her real name, "you are not a real mother. You are nothing but a burden to me, and you don't even care. I am leaving before I become you. I am nothing like you, and I'm making damn sure that I don't become you."

With that, I slammed the door shut behind me and walked into the moonlight. I was headed for Bella's, offically an orphan just the way I was meant to be. I had nothing in the world. I had no place that I belonged. I had no need to anyone
