“Miss Honeyyeager,” Professor Snape snapped my attention away from my handsome boyfriend, “is my teaching not nearly as hypnotizing as Draco?”
I blushed and scooted my chair from Draco’s just a little. He smirked at me with a wink. Snape continued teaching. I couldn’t believe that Draco and I had been dating for a whole month. It was truly something that I loved. He just made me so happy. Happier than when I was with Robbie, whom I hadn’t seen since the train. Something must’ve been keeping him occupied.
After class, Draco grabbed my hand and led me out into the hallway, where he pinned me up against the wall and kissed me. We were always stealing kisses whenever we could. It was something that Robbie never did, even when we first started going out.
“Happy one month, Hans,” he whispered into my hair.
I smiled and kissed his cheek, “Happy one month.”
“Look at the two lovebirds,” Bella cooed when she saw us.
I slightly pulled away from him, my cheeks aflame, and looked at my best mate. She just had the worst timing ever, but I love her none-the-less. She smiled at us before she began talking.
“Look!” she said, waving a piece of paper in my face, “Guess what’s happening on Halloween?”
“What?” I asked as we started walking to the Great Hall for lunch.
“First Hogsmeade trip. I’m guess you’re going with your man?” she chuckled, looking Draco up and down, “I won’t have a date. You’ll leave poor, little old me out?”
“Would you like a date? I can find you one, and we could double,” Draco offered with a smirk.
Bella laughed. “Are you for real? You would do that for me, Draco?”
He nodded, “Of course I would. You’re Hanna’s best mate. Plus, my best mate needs a date. Would you mind going with him?”
“A blind date?” she asked, pursing her lips and then smiling. “I LOVE that idea! Thanks, Draco. I’ll see you guys later. I promised Beth that I would sit with her at lunch. Kat’s been leaving her alone a lot lately.”
“Bye!” I called after her and then beamed up at my boyfriend, “Thanks for that. She’s really needed a pick-me-up for awhile now.” I kissed him gently on the lips.
He smiled. “Well, I happen to know a little insider information. My best mate, Blaise, has been having secret meetings with a girl. From what he’s been describing, she sounds a lot like Bella. He won’t tell me her name yet, but he’s falling hard for this girl. He says he doesn’t know much about her, but Bella seems the type that would be mysterious to flirt with a guy.”
“You bet. She’s been sneaking off too. So perhaps they will get together. Then they can be just as happy as we are,” I said, taking his hand and leading him out to the courtyard.
“I have no doubt that they will be happy, if they get together. They seem like the perfect couple,” he then brushed some hair behind my ear, “Just like us.”
We laid on the grass and snogged for a little while before just staring into each other’s eyes. His were becoming tired-looking and a little blood shot as if he was beginning to get stressed. I took my fingertips and ever-so gently caressed his cheek. He smiled.
“Hanna,” he said softly, “What did you mean before when you said that you only shared the safe stuff with me?”
She said. “Exactly that.”
“You’re so nice and kind, not to mention beautiful and innocent. Those just aren’t traits you usually see in a person who’s had a rough past. Was it your father?”
I shook my head. “I don’t have a father. I presume that I did at one time, but he’s hasn’t been in my life from what I can remember. I like to think that he’s out there somewhere but doesn’t have a clue that I’m alive, but if he did, then he would try to be a father. I imagine that I look like him since I don’t look like my mother, who has faded blonde hair and twisted blue eyes. Come to think of it, I don’t have much in common with my mother.”
“Tell me about your mother,” he said right away.
I sighed. “Why do you want to know about her?”
“Because, Hanna, I want to know everything about you. Every part of you has intrigued me, and I need to know more. I need to know how you became who you are today, especially if that includes your mother.”
I looked into his grey eyes and told him everything about Fiona Honeyyeager. I learned a few things myself while speaking about her. Such as, we both have this tendency to fall for the guy who is just the opposite as us. She fell for William Gaylord. He wasn’t my father, but he was the one that she loved until he died. He was a bad boy same as Draco. A mystery that needed to be chiseled from under the hard ice they’ve produced to protect their secrets. I liked to imagine that William was my father, but it’s just not possible.
“So you left her. Just like that?” He asked, his mind obviously at work.
I nodded. “I was tired of her treating me like that. I worked hard for that money, but she just didn’t understand. I don’t think she’ll ever understand. She’ll just continue to feed the monster that wants more.”
“My parents are worse off than yours,” he says after a few moments of silence, “My father is abusive plus an alcoholic, which makes him fucking weak, so fucking weak that he’s at the beck and call of a force that should not be reckoned with. My mother wants to badly to be accepted into my father’s world that she’ll do anything just to stand next to him, which means pushing me to be the best so that dad’s reputation won’t be driven straight into the ground, which he’s already done anyway.”
I didn’t know what to say, so I didn’t say anything. I just continued to look into those beautiful eyes that were now filled with hate.
“Hanna,” he said, preparing himself, “my parents don’t deserve me to be proud of them. They’re not who I’m about, so please don’t judge me on anything that happens this year because it’s not because I want it. It’s about something far greater than all of us.”
I nodded, still silent.
He smiled. “That’s my Hanna. I knew that you would accept me no matter what. That’s why I-“
He stopped what he was saying and blushed. I push my hand on his cheek and bit my lip. “Don’t every worry about my not accepting you, Draco. You’ve made me feel how no one else has ever made me feel before. You’re special, Draco. A lot more special than you give yourself credit for.”
He kissed me. “Thanks, Hanna. Same goes for you. I will always accept you.”
I leaned my forehead against his, “Do you really mean that?”
He nodded. “I do. Hanna,” he paused again.
“I love you, Draco,” I said without thinking.
His whole face lit up. “You too, Hanna.”
He didn’t exactly say it, but oddly enough, it seemed like enough at the time
