Chapter 1:  How it all began

For a peasant, life was harsh and usually filled with few happy moments. That is especially true in Lance's case, the main character of this story.

He had to provide food for his father, who was very ill because of some unknown disease.

Each year for over 5 years, he would nurture his father with food made by his own hard work. Each year the quality of the food got better and better and many envied his results, but it was not enough to help his father.

His condition aggravated to a point where he could not get out of bed and that fact alone made Lance very sad and depressive, forcing him to cling to any ray of hope he could find.

One day, a witch made its appearance in the village and told of a legend in the forest overlooking the village.

It was a tale like any other the people have heard, one that would fulfill anyone's wish, even that of saving one's father from an incurable disease.

Lance couldn't help himself be drawn in by the sweet words the witch seemed to whisper only for him.

No one else took the witch seriously and soon after left mocking her appearance and the tales she spoke of, but a pair of innocent and naive ears took heed and filled with the sweet hope in mind, gathered enough courage to ask the witch what he must do.

Having reached his limit of trying hard, the words Lance was listening to intently were nothing less than poison to his innocent soul. Poison he could not help but swallow whole.

The witch told Lance that to have his wish fulfilled, he had to enter the forest after midnight and with the dagger the witch gave him, he had to kill the spirit of the forest and upon the bloodshed make his wish.

Lance hesitated, saying sacrificing one life for another is wrong, but the witch knew that his protest were only there to rid him of the guilt he felt.

He entered the forest at midnight when the full moon was in view, regardless of the guilt and fear he felt.

His fear got the best of him at many points in the journey towards the center of the forest. At one stage of his journey, he starts hearing a sweet voice singing a lullaby.

As he crept closer he could see a beautiful woman with long silver hair, with deep blue eyes and a one piece dress that matched the color of her hair. She was holding her hands above two grey wolfs, which seemed to dance as she continued to sing.

Lance himself felt attracted to this sound and in a moment of carelessness he spoke silently the words: "Beautiful song", thanks to this small whisper, one of the wolves alerts the young lady who shouts :  "Who Goes There?".

Lance feeling guilty of peeping on the young lady came out of the bushes.

" My name is Lance, I mean you no harm!" Said Lance trying to hide the knife the witch gave him.

At that moment, he was shaking with fear at the thought that he could get killed by the wolves that were at the girls side, but what the young lady did next was unexpected, as she began asking him questions.

"First answer me this, how did you find my hiding spot?" Asked the young lady judging Lance's every move with a sharp look.

"I..I just followed the singing of the lullaby." Said Lance with a quivering voice.

"And what were you doing in the forest at this time of the night, don't you know that it is a dangerous place?" The young lady started getting more suspicious as Lance's behavior became even more like that of someone who was caught red handed.
