Chapter 9: War of Thorns 7
As he continued his rampage in the enemy encampment, he advanced towards the siege towers regardless of how many enemies stood in his way.
“Is that what I think it is?” As he got closer, he noticed the siege elephants caged up and thought of using them to spread chaos around the base.
“Well I opened them, but the elephants don’t seem too keen on making chaos. Fenrir’s ROAR!” With a small grin on Lance’s face, the elephants that were scared by the howl, mowed down hundreds of enemies in every direction.
Lance made his way towards the catapults without any further resistance and he quickly dealt with the engineers, placing one of the scrolls under a catapult.
But just as he placed the scroll under the catapult, he asked himself one important question.
“How do I activate the scrolls?” Scratching his head for a few seconds, he decided to place them all and worry about activating them later.
“I hope you make it in time, Lance.” The count who was holding a glass of wine in one hand, was staring at the chaos that had completely overtaken the enemy base, as he waited for something to happen soon.
Lance continued his mission, searching for good spots to place the scrolls, but what he didn’t know, was that the scrolls had a timer on them of exactly 1 hour.
As Lance placed the last scroll, the time ran out and the scroll activated in his hand, instantly burning it away, before he could get away.
“What the heck…? Oh crap!” As Lance looked up at the sky following the giant pillar of flame, he could see the sky darken and huge balls of fire unleash themselves upon the enemy encampment.
To Olga’s shock, it wasn’t only the area around the siege weapons that was affected, but the entire base.
Huge fireballs rained down on the enemy base for hours, Olga watched closely for the inevitable end of the spells and waited for the smoke and dust to settle down.
“Vampires, prepare to move out! The spell is over, we must deal with the remaining enemies and search for Lance.” Even though Olga didn’t want to think about it, she thought for certain that Lance was no more.
As the dragon reached the enemy base, the devastation was greater than she thought, but against all odds, Lance was still standing, charred beyond recognition, he looked at Olga with a confident smirk.
“It will take more than this to kill me.” As he said this, he fainted.
Inside the inferno, Lance had died 3 times and regenerated back, consuming most of the energy he gained from consuming the corpses.
“Cocky till the end, I see.” Olga catches him in time and caries him back to the castle.
Upon his reawakening Lance was surrounded by meats of all types and sizes, as he looked around he decided to eat from a silver plate which had 3 slices of raw meat.
“ Ahahaha, I knew you had a taste for human flesh, but I never expected it to be this pronounced.” The Count laughed as Lance struggled to swallow the meat inside his mouth.
“If I wasn’t feeling so weak right now, I would have pulled out your tongue and eaten that instead.” Lance growled.
“Relax, it was a joke, that’s meat from a dragon that died of old age, as you know it’s meat doesn’t spoil for a 100 years and it tastes great.” The Count jokingly pretends to back down.
“Aside from ruining my appetite, what else did you want from me?” Lance asked as he resumed his eating.
“With your success, both numbers and morale are now in our favor, victory is within sight.” The Count said expecting a reaction from Lance who ignored him.
“But as any good strategist knows, a cornered enemy is a desperate enemy, willing to do anything to escape from the jaws of defeat.” Again the Count stopped waiting for a reply from Lance.
“And you made a plan to counter such a thing?” Lance asked with half his mouth filled with meat.
The Count smiled.“Exactly!”
With victory in their hands and with huge losses on the enemy side, the tide of war changes, now the leader of the Throng army will finally make his move.
