Chapter 4: War of the Thorns Part 2
Lance who survived a sudden attack from the enemy, prepared to enact his revenge. Traveling through the nearby glades, he noticed that that the extent of enemy presence was abnormal.
It was an ironical scene, the signs of war contrasted beautifully with the nature that was in full bloom, typical of the spring season.
“The sooner I deal with this, the sooner I will get to enjoy a nice walk through this forest.”
What Lance was most worried about, weren’t the mercenaries who were setting fires and cutting trees, but the mysterious men in cloth that wielded strange weapons made of clay.
Weapons which seemed to be able to suck the very essence out of the earth, irremediably scarring the soil with an affliction that stopped anything from ever growing again. The magic these weapons oozed was nothing Lance had ever seen before.
Lance spends the better part of the day, scouting the area, running for miles on end, searching for a weak spot in the enemy’s army to exploit.
Singling out a small division posted near a waterfall, Lance manages to take them out without alerting the other enemies in the region, the sounds of their screams that resulted from Lance breaking every bone in their body, got drowned by the cascade.
“I will ask again. From where did you acquire this kind of power?” Scattered on the ground were four men that Lance decided to interrogate, after breaking all the major bones in their body.
“Aghh…we are the chosen…we will not submit…we…!” The man was unable to finish his rant as Lance bashed his brains out with a sickening “splat”.
He especially made it bloodier than it was necessary, in order to mentally break the other three.
“I heard that the first time. If you intend to say the same thing, tell me now so that I can finish you off quickly.” Lifting his leg which had bits and pieces of brain and bone on his leg, he shakes it off, making it land in front of the other three.
Out of the three remaining, Lance could see that one of them, was visibly shaken out of his fanatical trance, but was still not ready to say anything.
“I don’t want…to die!” Said the man who obviously valued his life more than a vow he made to some sect.
“And what are you going to do, to stop me from turning you into what your other two friends are now?” Lance asked with a bored voice.
“Ehh!?” The man paused as he saw his other comrades dead and in the most messy way possible. “AHHHHHHHHH!” The man obviously panicked, he was in front of a creature that could kill him any second.
“Boom!” Lance slammed his fist in the ground. “If the next words that come out of your mouth, are anything other than what I asked, you are going to die!
“We received these weapons from Inquisitor Ball, but I don’t know where he got them from!” With despair in his voice, he said what was asked of him in a single breath.
Lance continued asking him questions and the man answered each one to the best of his knowledge. The day was growing even shorter and Lance managed to extract everything he wanted to know.
“Thanks for the info, this will help me greatly.” Lance smiles at him bitterly, as the man had little strength in him left. Deciding to leave him alone, Lance turned his back, but he was shocked by what happened next.
“I…want…to…live!” Despite the man having all his bones broken, he managed to lift his wobbling arm, pleading to Lance for help.
The shock was so great, it reminded Lance of how he also begged for mercy in front of Pandora.
