Chapter 6:  War of Thorns Part 4

After activating his ability, Lance’s hair that was short to medium in length, suddenly develops into a huge mass of hair that gains a life of its own, as it turns itself into sharp needles, surrounding Lance and spreading outward in every direction.

Everything happened in a matter of seconds and even the Red Coat failed to dodge the attack completely, as the remaining men had fallen victim to this ability.

“Hey, what are you?” Lance asked from inside his own hair fortress.

“W…what do you mean? I am one of the chosen few…!” His speech however was cut short, by Lance who interjected.

“You aren’t human anymore, are you?” Lance’s voice turns towards disgust, as the red silk falls off of the Red Coat.

“What do you mean?” As the Red Coat turned towards Lance, the hair dissolved itself allowing him to see the abomination that all Red Coats had become.

Where once was skin and hair, only mud and stone were now shielding him from the outer world, although this gathering of elements formed a regular human shape, a face no longer existed; instead an eye resided where once the stomach was located at.

“You…you willingly gave up your humanity to attain this power?” Lance snarled at the Red Coat, as he was just starting to understand what had happened to his body.

“What…what is this? What kind of trickery is this!?” Shockingly the Red Coat snapped at Lance, blaming him for his grotesque appearance.

“I did nothing! Were you really not aware of what happened to your body?” Lance tried to calm down the confused man.

“Shut up, Shut up , SHUT UP!” Losing his composure, the Red Coat commanded the golems to attack.

“Damn!” Lance jumped backwards, narrowly dodging the attack.

Seeing no other way but to fight, Lance stood in a fighting position waiting for the Golem to make its first move.

The Golem attacked with its huge hand, aiming to crush Lance in one blow, but unlike before Lance dodged with great ease.

His ability to dodge the attacks, allowed him to take advantage of the slow movements of the golems.

He grabbed one of the hands and using his superhuman force, he managed to topple the behemoth, bringing its head right next to Lance’s proximity, allowing him to destroy it with a punch.

Even though the second golem was harder to kill, Lance was just too fast for the cumbersome creature to keep up with.

“Now that those annoyances are out of the way, are you willing to answer my questions?” Lance cautiously approached the Red Coat, who was on his knees, as if he was trying to cry.

“GRRRAAAGH!” Without warning, he jumped forward pushing Lance into a nearby tree.

“Ugh…!” Lance barely had time to take in the pain, as the Red Coat tried to deliver a finishing blow, trying to crush Lance’s skull with his fist.

Lance dodged just on time and hit the Red Coat back with all he had. To his shock, the impact was strong enough to decapitate the Red Coat; however it soon regenerated another head and continued its assault.

“That was so inhumane, that I can’t stop myself laughing, a-ha-ha!” Lance continued to dodge the Red Coat’s constant assault, while carrying a smile on his face.

“What is so funny, wretch?” The Red Coat obviously did not understand Lance’s behavior, which seemed to turn from disgust to delight.

Just as the Red Coat asked Lance a question, his face turned to a serious one and he stopped dodging one of the attacks that was aimed straight at his head.

The impact shattered part of his skull, leaving the Red Coat confused, but as Lance’s left arm grab’s his fist, he started screaming and panicking.

“Damned abomination! To have part of your brains sent flying and not die! Truly something that is worth killing in their name.” The Red Coat constantly struggled to escape from Lance’s ever stronger grip.

“That’s why it is funny! Even now, you pretend that you are human, you are unaware of what happened to your body. Allow me to show you!” As he said this, his grip on the Red Coat’s hand severs it in half.

The Red Coat started crying out loud in shock, but he soon realized that he felt no pain and that his hand was already regenerating itself.

“My God, no! Stop…what is this!?” The Red Coat watched in horror as his body regenerated in the same manner Lance healed himself.

Confused and unaware of his surroundings, the Red Coat didn’t notice Lance’s kick that sent him to the ground.

With renewed anger, Lance jumped on the Red Coat punching the living daylights out of him, ripping his arms and head and even his legs, leaving only the torso intact.

“Before I finish you off, I want you to fully comprehend what you have become.” Lance got back up on his feet and before continuing what he had to say, he turned around to see if the other vampires were fine.

Even though Lance’s earlier attack had caused some wounds on the vampires as well, he made sure not to hit any vital points. The vampires were already well on their way to healing completely, as they sucked on the blood of the victims Lance had made.

“You kill for a flimsy belief that has only caused pain and suffering to everyone!”

“What’s more, you who fought against monsters have become a monster yourself! What was the use of killing so many, when in the end you become the thing you hate the most?”

“We are the chosen one’s, we are destined to rule over you all!” The eye furiously moved in every direction as it entered a religious reverie.

“YOU ARE A MONSTER, JUST LIKE ME!” Lance’s angered state got the better of him as he smashed the torso, killing the Red Coat.

“Lance?” The vampire stared at Lance as his fist was shaking from anger and from something sadder.

“Let’s go finish this mission already.”

Lance’s cursed life continued as he was often reminded of his mistakes and the life he had.
