Olivia's P.O.V.
I was reading a new book when my phone rang. I was honestly surprised when I realized my vibrate hadn't been off, as it usually is. It was on the kitchen counter but since the living room where I was reading and the kitchen were so close together. I put my bookmark in and got up from the couch. I found it sitting on the island counter top.
“Hello?” I'd answered it just when it's final ring went off.
“Hello my beautiful daughter!” My dad said. I frowned.
“Dad?” I asked. He laughed.
“Hello Olivia! I wanted to call and ask how you are.” He told me. I leaned my elbow against the counter. My dad was definitely sober, because if he was drunk he would be calling me all sorts of names. Plus, he'd been in AA for almost a year now and I'd hoped he was still on that right track. He claimed he had been dating a woman named Alice. But I hadn't spoken to him since he came to my house that past summer.
“I'm fine, Dad.” I told him. I was still unsure of why he was calling me.
“Oh, that's just wonderful.” He said. “Look, Alice and I are stopping by Doncaster this week and I was wondering if you'd like to have lunch with the two of us.” The invitation seemed strange coming from a person like my father, but I couldn't help but smile.
“Just with you and Alice?” I asked.
“Yes! I would love for you to meet her, Olivia. She's just wonderful. She's got blonde hair and she loved wearing this blue dress. She has bright blue eyes too, and um...she's so curious all the time.” My dad said. “Oh, and she loves rabbits that are going to be late!” My dad began to laugh, like it was some inside joke. I didn't get it.
“Um, yeah I'm coming to Doncaster for Christmas. In fact we're...” I caught myself. My dad probably didn't know that Louis and I were together again. “Um, I'm leaving this afternoon.” I said. If my dad noticed, he didn't say anything.
“Oh, just perfect! We can have lunch at that little Deli I used to always take you to!” My dad cheered.
“Dad, um, that Deli has been closed for seven years.” I reminded him.
“Oh, er, it has?” He asked. And there was my dad showing his true colors. He didn't know that all the memories we used to have, had all gone down the drain. “Well, we can chose something else.” He said.
“How about that pizza place on the corner of Wellington and Lynch?” I asked, remembering the nice little place.
“That sounds perfect.” My father said. I smiled to my self. Maybe I'm able to have a nice lunch with my dad and his girlfriend.
We said our goodbyes as soon as Louis came from the bathroom. He had a towel hanging on his waist. I smiled at him and couldn't help but stare.
“Who was on the phone?” He asked, running his fingers through his wet hair. Water dripping slowly down his perfectly tan body. My knees became weak.
“Um, my dad.” My face flushed red, suddenly embarrassed at just how completely attracted to my boyfriend I was. I looked down at my phone, pretending to be busy. Louis walked past me and I inhaled the aroma of his body soap. He pulled down a bowl and some of his favorite cereal. I stared at his back muscles as he lifted up his arms to get into the cabinets. I licked my lips. I couldn't stop watching him as he went to the refrigerator to get the milk.
“What did your dad want?” Louis asked. I guess he had been thinking of the oddity of my dad calling.
“He, um, he...uh, invited me to lunch with his, um girlfriend.” I stuttered. Louis turned and smiled at me. Oh my God. Why is he just so incredibly sexy? His eyebrows furrowed together.
