Louis' P.O.V.
"She's not going to call." I said to Zayn. It's been two weeks. Fourteen days. Three hundred and thirty-six hours. A fortnight.
"She'll call." Zayn tried to assure me. I shook my head.
"No. She's not." I replied sharply. Zayn was silent. I took another sip of my beer. It was a hot summer's day and we were in the middle of our US tour. We took a few days off on Venice Beach in Los Angeles. I pushed my sunglasses closer on my face. "I just wish I could move on. You know?" Zayn nodded.
"It's hard." He replied. I sighed and watched Harry and Niall dunk each other in the cool saltwater.
"I wish I could just find someone new to take her off my mind." I said this more to myself than to Zayn. "Someone that I could just mindlessly fall in love with and maybe I would finally get over Olivia. That's all I want."
"That's not what you want, Louis." Zayn said frankly. I paused and then nodded.
"It's exactly the opposite of what I want, I know. But what if it's what I need?" I asked. "What if that's what it takes to get over her?" Zayn was silent. Liam, who I thought was asleep in the beach chair beside me, sat up.
"Give her some time. What if she didn't get the message? What if it never went through? Call again." He suggested. I shook my head frantically.
"No. That's too clingy, too desperate. I gave her an option and she rejected it. She got the message. She pretended it never happened and didn't call me back. That's all there is to it." I said quickly. "Now I need to do what she's doing. I need to forget about her and move on."
"No, Loui--" I cut Liam off.
"I need to fall in love." I declared confidently. The boys groaned while I smiled, happy with my decision.

"It's not going to be hard, I'm a hopeless romantic. It'll be easy." I told Harry. He shook his head.
"I don't think so, Lou." He said. We were walking back to the hotel together. I rolled my eyes.
"Yes, Harry. I just need to go somewhere, like a beach party for example, and dance with a girl. Then I'm hooked." I told him. Harry just sighed.
"It'a going to backfire on you." He warned. I opened our hotel room with my key.
"And how's that?" I asked, finding a new outfit to wear.
"Say you do go to some party and find an attractive girl. Louis, she could be the complete opposite of her but you'd still compare her to Olivia." He had a point. "You wouldn't fall in love with her, you'd mask your pain by pretending. And in that process, you'd end up hurting her and yourself." I bit my lip and made my way to the bathroom. I turned back to Harry while standing in the doorway.
"Might as well try." I said. Harry rolled his eyes while I closed the door behind me. I stripped from my swim trunks and got into the shower. I washed away all the tanning oil and the sand. There was a knock on the door and then I heard it open. I peeked through the curtains and saw only Harry's head poke through the door crack.
"It's a terrible idea. It sucks. You are smarter than that. So stop mucking around and just do the manly thing. Whether or not she wants you to or not, go see her and settle things." He filed out. I stood there, the water running all over my face. "That's what I think you should do." I heard the door shut and I finished my shower, deep in thought.
Maybe it wasn't what I wanted, but it needed to happen, right? I needed to get over her somehow and what if this is what I have to do? What if the key to finally getting over her is to love someone else? I only wanted to love Olivia but maybe that's not going to happen. She doesn't want me so why should I put her in an awkward position? I needed to move on. And the only way to do that was to distract myself from her.
