Violet POV
My body registered more quickly and revealed to have less pain than earlier. Actually, what did happen earlier? Was it a vision or something surreal?
I opened my eyes further and I saw the similar shade of white, which resembled a hospital.
A young, beautiful woman approached me in a white lab coat; I assumed that she was my doctor. My head pounded when I turned it slightly. I winced and kept my gaze forward. My heart began beating quickly against my chest. What happened? My hand instantly shot to my stomach; there was a faint tingling where my wound was.
"How are you feeling?" She asked gently. Honestly? I felt like crap and those bright fluorescent lights were burning my eyes. I squinted back and shook my head slowly. Soon enough, I had to completely shut my eyes. The headache had only intensified. There was a cold compress placed upon my eyes.
"Thank you." I said to the person. I heard hushed whispers from the other side of the room and then silence. I did not know what to expect.
"Not a problem." The familiar voice rang. I inhaled sharply and froze.
Him. It was him. The man who had haunted my dreams. The man with chocolate eyes who seemed to have captured me in an alluring trance. I remembered his soft skin brushing against mine. A lump formed in my throat. Surely I was dreaming. There seemed to be no way that he brought me to the hospital and stayed by my side the entire time. It all seemed fictional, nobody would stay by my side.
I stiffly raised my hand to take the cold ice bag off, but his palm wrapped around my shaking hand. I let out an uneasy breath with goosebumps coursing up and down my body.
"No, no. It's ok. It's only me. Do not fear. You're safe now." Those whispered words brought back bad memories from the night that I was attacked. It's ok. You're going to be ok. I recalled him saying.
"Who are you and why did you save me?" I demanded with my eyebrows furrowed. Who is this mysterious fellow that came along and saved me from that scary man? I needed to know. I deserved to know answers. "And where am I?" I added. I heard a sigh from him, who was still standing at the side of my bed.
"Allow me to introduce myself, miss. I am Asher Sinclair, first in line for the throne. I saw that you were in great danger so I rescued you from the bad person. I can assure you that you are safe with me, I am sorry for causing such an inconvenience." He said in all one breath. It seemed as if he recited it from memory.
I was taken back by the information that he gave me, then burst out laughing. There was no way that this king-to-be rescued me and recruited me back to his castle. It all seemed surreal, then again, the man's eyes were red and I couldn't stop dreaming of Asher's chocolate eyes. That seemed to be a valid point. Bring it back together, Violet. You are in a stranger's home. What if he was a bad guy? You are vulnerable. I bit my lip. What do I say? It's getting more and more awkward by the second.
He coughed awkwardly and shuffled on his feet. I cleared my throat and straightened my back.
"Oh, well I can't wait to see this castle when I am healed." I replied lamely. I heard him chuckle beside me, then warned me to not look directly at the lights before pulling the compress off. My cheeks turned red. That was very pathetic.
When I took my first real glance at him, I did a double-take. Wow, this man was beyond gorgeous. His picturesque chocolate eyes matched his dark, clean-cut hair. His well-defined jawline went great with his high cheekbones. But most importantly, when my gaze rested on his eyes, they lured me in and he inhaled sharply.
I jumped in place and looked away. Maybe it was my boring gray-colored eyes. Nobody seemed to like them. I stared at anything but at this tall and overwhelming man before me.
He cleared his throat, then tucked his arm under my arms to help me sit up and stand. At first, my legs felt a little wobbly so I used his hard chest to keep me balanced. I blushed even harder. My cheeks felt steaming hot. His grip on my elbows were strong and firm.
"Careful, I got you. You did lose quite a lot of blood." He whispered. I thanked him quietly. He slowly guided me to the bathroom where the nurse had put a fresh shirt, a pair of skinny jeans, and some ballet flats. "You got it?" He asked before letting go. I nodded shyly and ducked into the bathroom.
I washed my face and looked into the mirror to see dark bags under my eyes. How long had I been unconscious? Never mind that. My gaze fell down and spotted a faint scar on my abdomen, which made me wonder what happened that night. It ran from my pelvic line to my belly button. My eyes widened and I brushed my finger over the delicate skin; such an injury seemed to be almost healed and it was a miracle how fast the process was.
I looked back up at myself. My plain brown hair flowed loosely around my shoulders. The clothes were a perfect fit. I took a couple deep breaths. Everything will be explained later, Violet. Do not worry yourself too much, the prince seemed to be a trustworthy guy, right? I bit my lip at the possibility of that doubt.
I walked steadily out the bathroom, and met gazes with Asher when he was talking in hushed voices with a well-built and tall man across the room.
