Violet POV
Well shit. I'm arguing with my hundred year old grandma, even my sass could not handle her. My patience was running thin. I only had so much time before Ash realized that I had left.
I was very much annoyed. "How lovely. It's a family reunion." I tried to match her tone of sarcasm. She scoffed then rolled her eyes. Old lady shouldn't even be breathing. "I'm pretty sure a couple aunts and uncles and cousins are in this crowd too, but I am here for business." I declared sternly. My hands were rested on top of the mahogany table.
The room was quiet. I smirked with satisfaction. I have control here. "The alpha is gone. I am the heiress, but as many of you know, I am also going to be queen for the vampires. It will be a challenge, but an option that nobody has mentioned is to become allies and work together. There is a possibility that I can rule both vampire and werewolves." There were a few murmurs but the room was mainly quiet. Many eyes were on Granny Smith and I.
Her voice rang out. "You really think that after centuries of playing enemies we can just walk onto the vampire property and not get our throats ripped off? That we will do little crafts and activities together? No. That's not how life works, sweetie. We stay on our half of the woods and you stay on yours. Since you haven't accepted the job as omega, I will have to be omega." With that last statement, chaos broke loose. I heard objections and agreements every which way. People were shouting at her and I.
"Our last encounter was not too pleasant." A smug look appeared on her face. My face blanked. The king. "Why don't you return to the rabbit hole that you climbed from and let the predator catch it's prey." That smirk made me snap. I advanced to her. Men stood in my way. I shoved a couple aside. She will never take advantage of us. Never. She remained perfectly still. She was quite entertained with my quick temper. I growled.
"Quiet!" Her voice echoed through the dining hall. People zipped their mouths immediately. The protests instantly stopped. I was seething. The fiery tension made the atmosphere thicker.
"If you do not wish to stay here and obey me, then go to Violet's side. Live the lifestyles of vampires. Work with them, be their slaves. Get your throats shredded to pieces." The voices rose again. Duel. The female voice whispered.
I looked around the room and wiped my sweaty palms on my jeans. I took a deep breath. "I challenge you to a duel; whoever wins will be the omega for the werewolf pack." I stated. There were many cheers and I received pats on the back. Granny smirked and nodded in acceptance.
"To the field!" Her voice thundered.I moved in the flow since I had no idea where the field was. Once I arrived, my eyes widened. There were acres and acres of empty land. The crowd made a huge ring around us. All eyes were on us.
My heartbeat kept escalating by the second. I didn't ask for so much attention. I took another deep breath and closed my eyes briefly. I needed to find my calming place and act accordingly. You fought before; hell, you even defeated Anabella. Fighting a werewolf would not make a difference, right? Fight and kill off the rest of the royal werewolf bloodline. Then it'll just be me. I took another deep breath. The anticipation was killing me.
She stood on the far end and paced back and forth. I concentrated all my energy and thoughts in destruction and prepared for it, in case she was getting too close for comfort. She didn't know what I was capable of and that is a clear advantage.
"Begin!" Someone shouted. She roared and morphed in a big ass white werewolf. I gulped. Well here goes nothing.
Asher POV
I paced in Aidan's room. The kid was running all over the place and bouncing off the walls. I blame the nanny for giving him sugar before bedtime. I scooped him up when he began running around my legs. He squealed and clapped his hands. "Ashy! Play with me!" He screamed him my ears. I pulled back and put him down.
I wanted him to burn his energy out, but instead he stared up at me with a pouty face and tugged on my dark-washed jeans. I sighed. "What do you want to play, Aidan?" He smiled and ran out the room. I chased after him. His screams echoed down the hallways.
We turned around the corner and ran into Caleb. He seemed to have a troubled look on his face, but that's probably a Jillian problem. Somehow, somewhere in the back of my mind, there was something itching to tell me that it was about Violet. But I brushed the strange feeling off and continued chasing after Aidan.
"Later, man!" I shouted behind me. He shook his head and walked away. I wonder what Jillian did to him now. Women. I rolled my eyes and placed a bright smile on my face.
"Haha! I got you!" I picked Aidan up and sat him on my shoulder. He squealed and yelled, 'Me king! Me king!' That made me stop on my tracks. The blood drained from my face. Father. I still have to tell him about Father. I sighed then closed my eyes for a second.
I put Aidan back on his feet. I smiled and walked him back to his room. I'll tell him some other time. We played with some cars until he could no longer keep his eyes open.
"Goodnight, Aidan." I whispered and kissed his cheek.
As I kissed his cheek, I got flashes of white fur, the total opposite from the alpha's. A shiver ran down my spine. It was probably just another wolf that fought in the battle. Nothing serious.
