What Happened in Between

The first day of school came quickly, making Kirstin and Scott wake up right away. The recently turned ten and eight year old quickly gathered their stuff, ready for a new year. Mitch, who just turned six, will not go to school. Number one reason? His dads said it was because of how shy he was. That wasn't a lie, but that wasn't the real number one reason.

"Mitchy," Kirstin yelled, putting on her Disney Princess backpack. She smiled when the six year old came running in the kitchen, his pajamas still on. "Behave, okay? I love you, baby brother."

"I lo-oo-ve you too, Kir-ir," Mitch tried to get out then frowned . Why can't he say her name? "I'm so-oo-rr-ry. I can't s-sa-ay your na-a-am-e."

Kirstin tried not to cry when she heard her brother's apology. She quickly grabbed a banana and gave it to her brother, smiling when he tried to open it. She bent down and helped him open it, smiling more when he smiled appreciatively . He didn't know how to say thank you yet, but showing his  smile, his Mitchy smile, was his thank you.

"Kirst," Scott yelled, walking into the kitchen. The ten year old grabbed an apple and smiled his youngest sibling. "What's up, Mitchy? Are you ready for school?"

"Yes," Mitch replied, throwing away the banana peel, hoping that it was thrown away. He never wanted to get in trouble with anything like every again. He touched his forehead, frowning when he felt something weird. It seemed...bumpy. "Wh-ha-at's on my for-or-rehe-ea-d?"

His older siblings shared a look, trying to figure out a way of how to answer that. Stitches from the last act of abuse Carson threw upon Mitch had to be down. A metal pipe that was up too high was the object that caused Mitch to go semiconscious  and start bleeding on his left side. Carson's kicks only made the new wound worse, almost making the youngest Olusola bleed out. The doctors revealed that if they didn't come when they did, Mitch would have died. When the stitches are removed, a permanent scar will be left on his left side of his forehead.

"Uh, you need to ask Daddy and Papa about that," Kirstin commented first, lying through her teeth. She and Scott knew all the abuse and torture their baby went through and what happened then(a/n: oneshot teas.:3). They were told that they had very right to tell their brother what happened afterwards, but they decided to tell white lies so their brother would not have fear struck upon him. He's been through a lot to go through that again. "Well, we have to go. Behave yourself, okay?"

Mitch nodded as he saw his dads kiss his older siblings goodbye. After they left, Avi turned and smiled when he saw his youngest son. He still looked terrifyingly skinny though. The doctor told Avi and Kevin that since Mitch was already small do his age, it will be really formidable. They were told to make sure he ate a lot so he could gain back the weight he lost. After some calculations, the doctor confirmed that Mitch lost more than twenty pounds over the summer. His parents are trying their best to help him gain the weight back.

"Mitch, are you ready for school?" Avi asked, gathering some work books. English, Math, and Science were among them. He smiled when his adorable son nodded excitedly. "Awesome! I need to go to work, but Daddy will be here. Your tutor will be here soon."

"O-oo-kay, Papa," Mitch replied, feeling nervous. His daddies aren't going to help him with his work? He thought they were going to be his teachers! "Why ar-re-n't you my te-ea-ea-ac-chers?"

"Daddy needs to work here at home and I need to go the music store," Avi answered, feeling his heart break. He didn't really think of that. "Don't worry. You'll like the teacher."

"Bu-ut-t they ar-ar-re not you a-an-nd Da-a-ad-ad-dy," Mitch pointed out, his tears feeling up with tears. Avi felt his own eyes drown in the moisture almost everyone is afraid to show. "I d-do-on-n't want you to le-ea-av-ve!"

Avi sighed to himself as he heard the doorbell ring. He picked up his son and walked to the door, sighing deeply. He hopes Mitch will like the tutor. He opened the door, feeling his shirt get wet with tears. He smiled at the person in front of him.

"Hi, Esther," Avi chirped, smiling. His older sister smiled back and Mitch looked up, waving shyly. "She's going to be your teacher!"

"Hi, Mitchy," Esther spoke up, smiling when Mitch smiled back to her. She looked up at his forehead and frowned. She never wanted to go through that ever again. "Hey, kiddo. How about you play with your toys? Your daddy and I want to talk."

Mitch nodded as Avi set him down. He ran into his room, Esther and his daddy smiling when he began to talk his usual quiet yet adorable tone to his stuffed animals. Ester then frowned as she crossed her arms.

"I'm so sorry, Avi," his sister began, her brunette hair falling past her cheeks. Avi nodded as he hugged her sister, allowing even more tears to wet his shirt. "If I knew that he was capable of that, I would have never date him. I'm so, so sorry."

Avi nodded once more as he brushed his long fingers through his sister's hair. Why is Esther blaming herself? She had nothing to do with it! He then looked at his watched and sighed. Time for work.

"I have to go now," Avi replied quietly, looking down the hallway. Kevin is still asleep and Mitch is distracted by his toys. "Tell him I said hi, okay? I'll see you later."

Esther nodded as she wiped her eyes, hoping for the best. She blamed herself for the abuse of her nephew. The reason why?

Carson killed his first born and Esther was there when it happened. She cleared her throat and smiled, wanting to get the day started.

"Mitch, let's get ready to work! We have a long day of ahead of us!"
