(WARNING: major injury)
Mitch woke up the next day by someone shaking him. It was Avi, who looked terrified. Tears ran down his face quickly.
"W-wh-ha-at's-s the ma-at-te-er?" Mitch asked, exhaustion clouding his voice. He yawned then really noticed how terrified Avi looked. Mitch quickly sat up, waking up entirely. "W-wh-ha-at is it?"
"Scott got shot."
~~~
The family quickly ran into the hospital, breathing heavily. Kevin went to the receptionist desk, scaring the man who was behind it.
"I need to know how Scott Olusola is doing," Kevin demanded, looks back at his husband and youngest child. Tears stained their cheeks and ran down their faces. "I'm his father."
"Okay," the male receptionist replied, typing in something quickly. He then read over and sighed deeply. "He is in a critical surgery. You could go to floor 4 though. That's where the O.R waiting rooms are."
Kevin nodded as his thanks as he went up to the rest of his family. Avi wiped at his eyes while Mitch just let the tears blur his vision.
"Scott just got into surgery," Kevin confirmed, making Avi sigh in relief. Mitch nodded his head, the tears still running down his face. "He's on Floor 4."
They then all walked to the elevator, praying that Scott will heal in no time.
~~~
The night Alex was released from the was the night Scott got shot. They were in the middle of kissing when all the sudden, Scott let out a pained gasp and fell to the ground. The doctor who saved Alex earlier quickly called anyone who was available for the emergency surgery and Scott was taken away immediately. Alex was all left by himself, worrying about his love.
"Alex?" Avi's deep voice spoke up, making Alex look up. He was just sent in here for about thirty minutes ago and his worries are getting the best of him. "He just got into surgery thirty minutes ago. Mitch is calling Kirstin and she is coming down. She got the first flight she could get. Kevin's getting Starbucks and he's going to order you something. Are you okay?"
"I don't know," Alex admitted quietly, feeling the ring in his pocket. He took it out, making Avi look at it gently. "I want to marry Scott. I was planning to engage to him after I got out of the hospital, but I guess things change."
Avi nodded as Kevin came in, Starbucks in hand. The taller man kisses Avi's forehead and set down the drinks.
"Good morning, Alex," Kevin responded, getting his drink. He then saw the ring and set down the expensive drink. "Alex, what is that?"
"I was wondering if I have permission to marry your son," Alex answered, looking at Scott's parents intensely. They nodded carefully, taking in every word Alex had to say. "I have known him since he left eighth grade and now he's a sophomore in college. I've known him for almost six years. Yes, he is twenty years old and he needs to finish college, but I'll wait for him. I want to love him and spend the rest of my life with him. I hope you say yes."
Avi and Kevin shared a look, working out their answer. Scott is super young and focusing on his writing career, but Alex treated him so well. Alex was there for every little thing Scott accomplished. He also snuck into his graduation and even though that is not good, it showed that Alex will do everything for Scott. They then figured out the answer and said:
"Yes."
~~~
The surgery was done after five hours; however, the family could not see Scott yet. Kirstin came in quickly, her shoes making a squeaky noise. She arrived two hours ago and the drive from the airport to the hospital was almost an hour. Traffic was also terrible, but she is happy she made it in time.
"How is he?" she asked anxiously, breathing heavily. Mitch shrugged his shoulders. "The surgery was successful though, right? If it was, then why can't we see him?"
"The doctors put him into a medical coma," Avi replied, standing up and making his daughter sit down. She sighed as she crossed her arms. "He should be awake any moment now."
"How was the plane ride?" Kevin asked Kirstin kindly. She smiled at him and adjusted herself.
"It was okay," Kirstin answered as she stood up to hug her father. She sat down and hugged Mitch close to her. "Anything new?"
"I'm g-ga-ay-y," Mitch responded right away. Kirstin widened her eyes and smiled happily. "I c-ca-am-me-e out t-th-his-is w-we-eek-k."
"That's great, kiddo," Kirstin exclaimed, hugging her brother close to her. A doctor then walked in, a smile on his face.
"He is awake," the doctor confirmed, making everyone sigh in relief. "We worked on his back. It was a bit complex because of his scoliosis, but the surgery went as planned. You may see him if you want."
The family nodded as they were directed towards Scott's room. The tired blond waved happily as he saw them. They waved back and Avi let Alex go to him first. Alex did so and took a deep sigh as he grabbed Scott's hand.
"Scott," he began, making Scott nod. "I have known you since you have ended eighth grade. I was just your tutor, but I would have never known that a tutor-student pairing will turn into a relationship. I have watched you grow into since an intelligent young man. You make me laugh, cry, angry, sad, every emotion know to men.
"You have opened up so much since I met you. Who would have known that the most outgoing and happiest person I know could be so shy and emotional at times? You are simply amazing and I love you. Your writing adds more to your personality and I love you even more for it. Your insecurities, fears, and troubles do not take anything away from who you are and what you want to do. I love you so, so much.
"I love you and I want to spend every moment with you until I breathe my last breath. Scott Richard Olusola, will you marry me?"
Scott nodded as he let the tears run down his face. Kirstin and Mitch both burst into tears and ran to their brother, hugging him tightly. Avi and Kevin smiled at each other, tears rolling down their faces.
"Our oldest baby is growing up," Avi murmured, smiling when Kevin kissed the top of his head.
"I know. I can't believe it.
~~~
Mitch woke up in the hospital on a chair next to Scott. Alex was on the bed with Scott and holding his left hand. The youngest Olusola smiled and got up to use the restroom. He turned on the light and screamed at what he saw on the mirror.
YOU'RE NEXT.
Fear struck upon Mitch and he felt himself fall to the ground. The last thing he saw was someone coming into the bathroom and darkness took over him.
