CHASE:
MY HANDS WERE FLYING across the keyboard...and then I heard it. The great, big-BOOM!-that had practically shook the whole place like an earthquake. My first thought was to ignore it, but then I had thought about Adam and Leo in the elevator. The sound had come from where the elevator was and my mind immediately went to the worst.
What if something has happened to them? My mind raced with thousands of possibilities and none of them really worked for me. One was to hope that they both made it out alive, only a few injuries, however major. But that could result in hospitals and questions. Another was to hope that Adam was okay. That there was nothing wrong with Adam. But that leaves me to thinking about disregarding Leo completely. Either way, I lose.
"Adam," I call, anxious for a reply. "Leo! Are you guys okay?" There is no reply. "GUYS, WHERE ARE YOU?" My voice became hoarse as I screamed countless amounts of time for the two. I nearly give up hope, too, but then I hear a loud thud that I know to be Adam running.
ADAM:
"Chase, come help! It's Leo!" I yell, banging on the doors that lead to the elevator. I actually resorted to running into the wall so that I could knock it down. I barely even make a dent. "Chase! CHASE!"
I had laid Leo on a few of the containers carrying science stuff, trying to make him as comfortable as possible.
"Leo," I say, ramming my shoulder into the doors. "Leo, don't you dare give up on me. Chase'll help us. He'll know what to do." I look at the door and face-palm. As I look at the yellow and black tape going up the walls, I see a panel that I know is used to open the door. "What's the code? What's the code?!"
I hear coughing and I turn around immediately, my eyes meeting a horrific sight.
Leo was holding his stomach and coughing up large amounts of blood. His groans echo the metal room and his eyes are starting to close.
I think what to do, but honestly, what can I do? I don't even think Chase can fix this.
"Leo, Leo come on. Don't close your eyes. Stay with me." I am practically screaming at him.
"S-s-seven, f-four, five, n-nine."
"Leo," I say, "I have no idea what those numbers mean." He lifts his left hand slightly, one finger the tiniest bit straightened, almost like he was pointing. "The-the panel? The code! That's it! That's the code to the panel!" I sprint towards the panel and type in the numbers. An air seal does its thing, hiding loudly and I run back to Leo. I pick him up and wait impatiently as the door opens at a very snail-like pace. "Dear God, open up!"
It finally opens and I see no sign of Chase. All is see is four retreating figures.
