The night is going great! I think she's forgotten about Chase! Marcus thought. He didn't know that he was farther from the truth.

"Excuse me, Marcus, where's the restroom? I need to freshen up a bit," Bree said politely. Marcus nodded and pointed to a door down near the back of the restaurant. "Thanks."

As she walked, she pulled put her phone and texted Chase:

(Bree is italics, Chase is bold.)

Hey

Bree stared at the three little dots that came up, signaling that Chase was replying.

Hey, what's up? I thought you were on a date with Marcus.

I am. Can you help me get out of it?

She smiled at his response. The idiot that she knew and loved was showing. Wait a minute, did she just say love? No, no, she thought. I said like.

What do you mean? You want me to, like, get you out of there or something?

It was like he was waiting for her response on every text. The answer was immediate.

Yeah, think you can do it?

Sure, where are you guys?

We are at this fancy place called Republica. He said it was the fanciest place he could afford.

Didn't want the details, Bree. Do you think you know where that place is?

Just look for it on the Internet, all right? It isn't that hard. And aren't you a super human?

Hey! These are messages, they can be intercepted! You've got to be more careful on this. I'll be there soon. Bye.

All right, bye. See you soon.

She was relieved she could count on Chase. Without him, she would never get through life. She looked at the time. She had to get back to Marcus.

"Hey, sorry it took so long." Lie. "I just got lost."

"It's okay. So, are you having a good time?"

"Yes." Complete and utter lie. "I've had a great time."

"Had? Are you going somewhere?" He stood up, his eyes glowing green. His eyes are brown, though. Not green, Bree thought. This wasn't what Leo has been talking about, right? No, he was not bionic. That was crazy!

"What? Oh, uh, no," she quickly covered. He nodded, but she could tell that he didn't trust she was telling the truth. She saw Davenport's self-driving car pull up in her peripheral vision. Well, that was quick.

Chase got out of the car and walked towards the entrance of the restaurant. He pulled the door open, but didn't earn Marcus's attention. Soon, he came up behind Marcus and started to speak. "Hey, Bree, did you forget something?"

She tried to look disappointed at the interruption. "What would I have forgotten, Chase?"

"Maybe telling Dad where you were going, you know, what normal teenage girls should do," he said, almost in a scolding tone. Nice touch. "Anyway, Dad told me to bring you home." He turned to Marcus with an apologetic look in his eyes and his voice was soft and sincere. "Sorry, Marcus, but hey, I'm sure she had a great time. Hope you understand." Chase walked next to her and grabbed her, practically dragging her towards the car, leaving a dumbfounded Marcus left alone in the restaurant.

"Thank you so, so much," she thanked him once they got in the car.

"Yeah, but I didn't like doing that. You shouldn't have made me lie to him," he replied. "If you didn't like him, or the date for that matter, you should have just told him so. I'm sure he would have understood."
