Chase and Bree were leaning against lockers close to the gym, talking intently. Marcus was staring from afar, angrily watching the pair stare into each other's eyes and laughing.

'Why can't she be mine?' Marcus asked himself. 'Why does she have to love him?' Marcus grows tired of trying to read their lips and resorts to bionics. He brushes his hair behind his ear and heard their conversation become clear.

"Yeah, can you believe what Leo keeps saying?" Chase asked. He let out a small chuckle and shook his head. "It's crazy."

"I know," Bree agreed, "he's acting so strange. Like he's trying to find info about Marcus." She stared intently at Chase with an unreadable expression.

"Information that he'll never find. there isn't anything wrong with Marcus," Chase said. "And even if there were, what would it be? He's the only one that has noticed us since, well, the beginning of school."

'No, no, no, what were they talking about before that? They were laughing, now they seem dead serious," Marcus noted. He wanted real information, anything about them would be nice.

Bree and Chase stopped talking, Marcus noticed. They were staring and slowly, really, really slowly leaning in. 'This has to stop,' Marcus thought. He walked over to them, making sure his footsteps were very loud, and patted Chase on the shoulder. "Hey, Chase, mind if I borrow Bree for a moment?" 'What am I doing?' Marcus thought.

Chase looked at Bree for approval. He asked a silent question and Bree nodded slightly. "Yeah, I-I guess." He started to walk away, giving Marcus and Bree privacy but he thought better of it. 'Why should I give them privacy?' Chase backtracked and hid behind a wall.

He used his super hearing and heard their conversation.

"Hey, what's up?" Bree asked.

"Nothing, really, actually never mind that," Marcus stuttered, "I wanted to ask you something, that okay?"

"Yeah, okay, continue," Bree replied.

"Would you-would you like to go on a date?" Marcus asked. "With me?

Chase heard Bree laugh lightly...that hurt him. What killed him was her response. "Yes." That single word was the end of his happiness. His existence.
