The song above is just something to fill the silence while reading and usually has nothing to do with the story but some times it does but you don't have to listen to it if you don't want to. I would never push something onto somebody. But I LOVE the picture! You'll understand it once you start reading. Authors take their time to write and if you take the time to read you can take another few seconds to comment your thoughts on this or any other chapter.

Chapter Three

I passed town after town, only stopping for gas and food. Whatever money I had when I started out was quickly dwindling and I was starting to question what I was doing?

My headlights swept along the road, highlighting the dense forest on both sides. I had no clue where I was but if, by rough calculation, I had to guess I was somewhere south of the Canadian border. I have't run across any passport checks to go into Canada or seen any "We don't want Bieber back" posters so it was safe to assume I was still in the U.S.

Suddenly my check engine light came on and I cursed. My car was over heating. I quickly pulled over and got out to inspect the steam rising from under the hood.

It dawned on me that I was in the middle of nowhere, no cell service, and no one to call for help. The only thing I could do to sooth my nerves was to shift. Would that hurt the baby?

Now I really was screwed.

Branches moved on the other side of the road from where I was standing. My nose rose lifted out of habit but I was upwind and couldn't smell anything but my own scent.

They came out in a spear point of three. We stood there, daring the other to speak first. Finally, the guy who seemed to be in charge spoke up.

"Have you come to join?" His voice was rough, as if he hadn't spoken in a while. I still hadn't been able to catch their scent and I was still on edge. Join what?

"Join?" My voice was cautious, like the rest of me.

They looked at each other which gave me the chance to glance them over. The one who spoke had shaggy black hair falling into his eyes, strong features, and a deep tan that seemed to do with his heritage than being out in the sun all the time. Actually they all were very tan and tall. The two who hadn't spoken yet seemed alike in every way. Brother? Twins? Both had brown hair that was in need of a hair cut.

"My name is Jared. Were shifters like you."

And just like that my life changed with a simple sentence. I've only met a few shifters in my life and now just like that I meet three more. I still didn't say anything. Guess my maternal instincts wanted to hide myself somewhere until I gave birth.

"I'm Bella. I wasn't exactly looking for other shifters when I started to drive. My car just over heated."

Jared smiled. "Hello, Bella, where do you hail from?"

"Spokane, Washington. I just started driving so I don't really know where I am." What was going to happen now?

"Do you want to come with us? Our pack is just a bit this way." Jared pointed behind him but I was apprehensive to enter a dark forest with three strange male strangers. As if reading my mind he said, "we wont hurt you. Shifter law forbids us to lay even a finger on a pregnant female. Plus our mothers raised us as gentlemen." This peaked my interest greatly. They must have known I was pregnant from my changing scent.

Obviously there were more of my kind near and I wondered how it would feel to be surrounded by them. To be myself instead of always having to hide, but I was still reluctant.

I nodded to the two males he hadn't introduced.

"Who are they?" Not that it would make any different if I were never seen from again.

He motioned to the guy on his left first. "This is Bran and this is Land."

"Bran and Land?" I asked. What kind of names are those?"

They suddenly spoke up together. I was right, Twins.

"Short for Brandon and Landon. Our mother though it would be funny. It's not." Their expressions hadn't changed the whole time which told me they were as hesitant as I was about this chance meeting.

"Okay then. . .how about this? You walk in front of me so I can see you at all times and no one cirlces behind me? And no touching." They had already said they couldn't touch me but that wouldn't stop them if they really wanted to. I wanted to make it clear.

"Sounds good to me. We'll go slow." I nodded and grabbed my backpack then followed their retreating backs. I guess I would come back to get my bags later on. Before I entered the forest completely I clicked the fodder and locked my door.

True to their word they managed a slow pace that was a little faster than a stroll. Where I once would have been able to run a mile without losing my breath, I now felt tired and slightly out of breath. It could also be from not having a proper nights sleep since before he left me.

Half an hour later the trees started to thinning and then disappeared altogether to make way for a simple settlement. Tall tan people were everywhere. Children's laughter filled the night air and I could see a bonfire roaring in the middle of this settlement.

Where was I?
