Chapter Nine

Bella POV

I was having the time of my life!

Robin and I quickly became friends. She would teach me things I never knew before and in return I'd tell her about Renee, Charlie, and all the precautions we took to ensure our secrecy.

My stomach continued to grow bigger every day until it started to grow beyond the point of a humans stomach at only about three weeks. A human wouldn't even begin to show until their third or fourth month?

Since I had never seen a pregnant shifter before I hoped this was normal since no one was making a fuss. Their were a few pregnant females around but I have yet to see them since their mates liked to keep them tucked away. I chucked my huge stomach up to being a shifter.

Until Robin said something.

"How far along are you?" I shrugged.

"How long is a normal pregnancy for us?" I asked her.

"Usually seven months but you look about three already."

Wait! What? I had just found out I was pregnant a few weeks back! I thought to myself. Vampire DNA must speed up the process. I've noticed I'm always eating and the urge to hunt is driving me insane. Guess I would have to ask Rashed if I could go hunting. If Robin was right then I only had four more months to go before I could hold my child.

This thought freaked me out. What was I doing here? I should be nesting or something. Painting the baby's room and stocking up on diapers, not playing camper.

"We have a couple of good midwives. If you decide to stick around, which I hope you do, then they will help you to deliver."

"I don't know if I will. I like it here but. . . ." I honestly didn't know how to end that sentence.

Robin nodded. "I get it. You're feeling the urge to make a den for your cub. It's normal." She paused. "It's just saying. . .if you do then you and your little one will be welcomed." She shrugged. "Who knows, maybe you'll have more than one."

This stopped me in my tracks.

"More than one? I don't think twins run in my family"

"Shifters usually have more than one child, Bella. Haven't you seen all the twins around here? We're more genetically related to animals than humans. Most animals have more than one baby to ensure survival of the species. So it's a good chance you will have more than one child. It's not uncommon." She explained. It made sense but I didn't want to accept it.

After Robin pointed this out I saw them. Twin after twin. How were you suppose to tell them apart?

What would I name them?

I needed to stop freaking myself out. I thanked Robin for the information and then waddled back toward Rashed's.

Our relationship was cordial. He was a prefect gentleman, giving me privacy when I needed it and letting me talk to him when I didn't want to be alone. Every evening we eat dinner together and one night I think he was testing his limits with me. He actually risked touching me! Which was laughable because I knew I wouldn't go for his throat. He reached across the table and took my hand. I let him because it was nice to feel his warmth. It was nice to feel warm flesh instead of cold stone.

We smiled at each other.

I came back to the present moment as I walked through Rashed's door. In the living room Jared and Rashed were talking in lowered voices but stopped once they saw me.

"I didn't mean to interrupt." I said, about to go past them and up to my room.

"It's alright. How are you feeling?" Rashed stood and came over to me, making no sound on the carpet. He stopped a few steps away but I could see he wanted to touch me and probably would have if Jared wasn't here to witness.

"I'm feeling great. Fat, but great." I smiled at them which they returned. "I actually wanted to talk to you about something." My hands rested over my ever growing stomach.

Something nudged my hand.

A kick? From my baby?

This was the first time I had ever felt the baby move. I laughed with joy and grabbed Rashed's hand for him to feel.

"Wow! Is this the first time?" He asked quietly as he moved a little closer.

A throat clearing interrupted our moment.

Jared had narrowed his eyes at Rashed's hand which quickly disappeared.

"I'll talk to you later, Jared." His voice was colder, an order to a solider. Jared left after another glance and then it was just the two of us again but the moment was gone.

"I'ts the first time." My voice was small even to my ears.

"Shifter children are cherished and protected here, if someone were to harm them then there is a sever punishment." Did he say this to make me feel better or so I would be aware of how I raised my child? Was he telling me that shifter mothers are usually over protective and so I should be as well? Or was I reaching to a different conclusion altogether? Damn hormones. I was questioning everything now a days and it was driving me nuts.

We were quiet and this time it was awkward.

"What did you want to talk about?" He lead the way into the living room, to the same chair I sat in the first time I came here.

"I was wondering if we could go hunting? I have the urge to kill something."

I was being completely serious but Rashed laughed. "It's the instinct to provide. You see it in lions all the time. The female goes out to hunt, brings back dinner for the others." He explained.

The human part of my mind wanted to laugh at this but my shifter side said that it wanted to kill something. To taste warm blood in my mouth and rip into flesh. Maybe it was just my hormones?

"We'll go tonight. We wont take a big group, too much noise." I agreed with him, daydreaming about sinking my sharp teeth into a deer or two.

I was slightly surprised with myself. When did I get so blood thirsty?
