Who Would You Live And Die For On That List?

"Wait, Mr. Owens."

"What, Tyler?"

I stand up, "Say that there is.. A list. If you had to die for somebody on this particular list.. Who would you die for?"

"...."

"..."

"I'll.. Get back to you on that."

"Okay, then on the same list. Who would you live for?"

"What?"

"You're alive and living right now so... What makes you want to continue living?"

"I'm happy, that's why I want to continue living."

"Why are you happy?"

"What kind of question is that, Tyler?"

"What kind of question is, 'Why do you like music?'"

Oh man, maybe, I shouldn't have said that.

"A question like, 'Why do you like music?' has an answer."

"A question like, 'Why are you happy?' has an answer too but if you can't answer it, then, you're not happy."

"I am happy, how is it your business to know why I'm happy?"

"I like music but how is it YOUR business to know why I like music?"

"Well, happiness is personal business."

"Music is my personal business."

"Why is music your person business?"

"Because my taste in music is Jennas' face and that is personal."

"If that was personal, why did you say it so the whole class could hear?"

"Because I was trying to make an example."

"That.. Your taste in music was Jenna's face."

"Yes because she's attractive."

"Tyler, if I was you. I wouldn't say that Jenna is attractive in this class, I'd tell her in private."

"Didn't you and your wife get divorced this summer?" I impulsively say.

Mr. Owens looks at me like he's mad, "Tell me this, Tyler. Who would you live and die for on this particular list?"

"I don't know."

"Exactly so keep your thoughts to yourself."

I was simply asking if he had to die for somebody, who would it be? And I was also asking if he had to live for somebody, who would he live for?
