My arm was lodged underneath the seat of Aria's truck. I pushed against the chair carefully, but nothing happened.
The truck was on it's side, floating under the cold seawater. The windows were all cracked, and my friends were unconscious.
"Ugh...."
I looked to my left and saw Lizzy waking up. Her pale face was bloody and bruised. She'd hit the window when we initially fell.
"Rivio? You okay?"
"About as good as I look."
"We're in a bad situation here, aren't we?"
"Bad doesn't even describe it." I pushed again at the chair, but it wasn't moving. The window gave a chilling creak sound that made my spine shiver.
"Lizzy, we need to help Aria. She was shot."
"Shot? How do you know?"
"I saw a sniper, up in the trees. He shot Aria, and she steered off to the left."
"Oh no....we need to help her. And Jun."
"Jun'll be fine. He's a tough bastard, always has been."
"Yeah, I guess that's true."
The window was mere seconds away from cracking. We didn't have much time. I pulled my arm again, and this time the chair gave way. The whole truck tilted however, and Jun fell out of his seat and onto the front window. White cracks spread across the screen, and he moaned.
"Ouch....where am I? Oh hell!" He stared at the breaking window.
"Jun, grab Aria! Now!" Jun grabbed her arm and pulled her out of the chair. This amount of pressure caused the back window to shatter, and water flooded the car. It started sinking, but I grabbed Lizzy and pushed her outside. She started swimming towards the surface. I held my breath and turned back towards Jun and Aria. The dislodged chairs were blocking their way through, and I threw both seats to the side. My lungs were burning, but Jun swam through. Aria had her foot tangled in a seatbelt, but I unravelled it and helped her through. She wasn't breathing! I snatched her arm and rabidly swam towards the surface. We reached the top, coughing. Aria was severely wounded. My arm was aching, and Jun was relatively fine. Lizzy had cleaned herself up, although she had a splitting headache.
"Aria? Aria, can you hear me?" I wasn't going to let her die. Too many people had died already.
"Rivio....I can't believe I crashed."
"You always were a crappy driver."
"No more....lifts for you."
"I'd rather walk than get in a car with you again." I said jokily.
"Ha-ha. Very....funny."
Sirens interrupted our talk, and I turned around. I half expected to see more gunmen, but this time it was good news.
An ambulance. Two medics ran over, and lifted Aria onto a stretcher.
"You'll be fine, Aria." I reassured her.
"Oh Rivio, I always...am!" She grinned.
The medics were Scalleti's. Me and Jun asked them if they knew anything about a prison break, but they were unaware. I guess Lui had bigger things to worry about than us. They were taking us to a neighbouring town to our own. It ran along both sides of a river that led out to sea. When we arrived, I was taken aback by how beautiful the scenery was. White sand dotted the edged of the turquoise river. Palm trees aligned the roads of the town.
The ambulance pulled in at a fairly modern hospital, and Aria was taken out. We were told by the medics that we would be taken to a hotel, to stay for a while. The town was accepting war refugees, and that's what they thought we were.
The hotel we were taken to had only finished construction a month ago. It was made out of smooth crimson bricks, and was about three stories tall. Fairly small, but comfortable. The three of us had to share a room, but it wasn't crowded. There was a TV, two beds and a kitchen area. Jun volunteered to sleep on the sofa.
After we got settled, we went to check on Aria.
"Man, we've been through some shit in the last few days." Jun muttered to himself while we walked.
"You could say that." Lizzy spoke.
I replied with a "Hopefully it'll all be over soon."
At the hospital, we were greeted by a pale doctor. He showed us to Aria's room, before delivering some horrible news.
Aria was lying down on a hospital bed. She'd been shot, but still seemed happy to see us.
The doctor began when we were all settled.
"Damage is unavoidable when you have a wound like this. I'm afraid...there has been severe damage to your spine. We cannot tell at this stage, but you will not be able to walk for three months, at the least."
Aria looked crushed. She'd always been agile, loved sports and moving about. This war had taken everything away from her now.
This news was interrupted by screams. A burning sensation spread across my back. The hospital was on fire!
The doctor tried to rush us out of the room, but slumped back against the wall. An arrow was lodged in his head,
A masked man, who looked rather overweight came in, and fired an arrow at Jun. It hit him square in the stomach. He fell back, wounded. I rushed the masked man and smashed his head against the wall. I took his crossbow and fired it straight through his brain. His mask fell off.
No. NO!
I'd killed Lui Scalleti. Aria's father, and the head of one of the most powerful families.
Another man came in, and threw a fiery liquid at the wall.
The room erupted in flames. If you have alot of questions, they will be answered in the next chapter!
