A Disappearing Act

Burning. Fire cut through my face. I ducked down, beneath the smoke. Lizzy was helping Jun get out of the room, and they ran down the hallway together. I scooped up Aria into my arms and sprinted out of the room. I darted through the corridors, ignoring the gunfire and flames. I wouldn't let Aria die, not after everything she's been through.
The doors flew open when I barrelled into them, and the cold air felt like heaven against my burning face.
Aria spoke to me.
"That's twice now, Rivio. I owe you."
"You don't owe me anything."
Lizzy pulled up in an ambulance.
"Rivio! Aria! Get in!" I heard Jun screeching.
Stealing cars now, I guessed. We climbed in the back and drove off.
"Rivio, I saw what you did to my dad...and I wanted to say thanks. I know it sounds fucked up, but he was a monster. He drove my mother away, and...."
"It's over now. Try and get some rest."
Aria fell asleep in no time, while Jun and Lizzy sat in the front of the ambulance, talking furiously.
I shut my eyes for a while.

When I woke up, the sun had just set. Aria was still asleep, and Jun had taken over driving. Lizzy was snoring in the passenger seat.
"Jun, where we going?"
"I'm looking for a house where we can stay for a while. It's been about thirteen hours, you've been asleep for awhile. We're up north now."
We were in the outskirts of a desert. The Scaletti's and Feric's met after you crossed this desert. We were driving along the border between the desert and a forest, with a small river running through both.
I sat and looked out of the window for a while, but eventually Jun stopped.
"This is the place! It has to be!"
Me and Jun got out of the ambulance eagerly. Somewhere safe, at last.
"Holy hell. This place will do. For now anyway."
Jun seemed excited, so I had a look. The house was modern, but was also empty. It was made out of a sleek brown wood, and was a large house. Inside, there were three bedrooms, a living room, dining room, kitchen, and two bathrooms. There was also a basement. It was surrounded by the river I mentioned before, and had stone walls around the perimeter of the house. Why wasn't anyone here? Who the hell cares? Aria had to heal, and we found somewhere safe!
Jun opened the iron gate to the estate once we were back outside, and I woke Lizzy and carried Aria in. Jun seemed overexcited and was already shouting inside.
"Dude! They've got a flatscreen telly! This place is ace!"
Inside, I put Aria down on the sofa, and she sat up.
"We're living the high life now, huh?" She grinned.
"I always knew I'd live in a place like this!" I joked.
Lizzy had already gone to bed, and Jun was busy scouting the rooms happily. Aria started snoring not long after I put her down, so eventually I decided to go to bed. My room was in the attic had a single bed tucked in the corner, a wardrobe and a small circular window. Practically passing out once I reached it, my last thoughts were of my home.

The sun shone though my window. I got up, put on a hoodie and jeans and walked downstairs. Jun was making breakfast, Aria was fast asleep. Where was Lizzy?
"Jun, where's Lizzy?"
"She's upstairs, I think."
I bounded up the stairs. Bursting open the door to Lizzy's new room, I was shocked.
A note lay on the bed. It read,
"Bring me Lui Scalleti's killer, and the girl will be spared. Be where this all began by night, or she dies."

Sorry this chapter's a bit short! Thanks for reading!
