I sprinted back, weaving through the orange streets. This could not be happening, I couldn't lose my sister!
The gunfire got louder as I reached my house. I heard Jun shouting my name, and I instantly turned around.
"I'm with you man. We'll get your sister, your mum out of there. Lizzy and Aria are on their way, hopefully with the guards."
"Okay. Let's just try and be quiet. God knows who these people are."
Jun and I crouched down and made our way through the smoke ahead. I faintly heard coughs, and more gunfire.
The closer we got to my house, the heavier the smoke became. Eventually we were both lay down, coughing and crawling our way through the thick cloud of smoke. Jun stopped me when we were a few blocks away.
"We....need to figure out a.....plan."
"I say we....just get close, see what we're up against. Maybe the guards have sorted things out."
I'd never been so wrong in my entire life.
Finally, we reached what was left of my house. Red bricks were thrown around the streets, along with shards of glass, covered in dust, and some were even covered in blood. Oh no.
"Fuck. Rivio, I'm so sorry..."
"Save it for now. I need to find out where Renée is, maybe she's oka-"
"HELP!" A desperate plea echoed through my ears.
"Jun, we have to help."
"I know, just give me a second."
We edged our way around the smoke, sneaking through the rubble that riddled the street and found the source of the scream. A group of four hostages, all Scaletti's, were on their knees. Two men dressed in all black stood at either ends, wielding Desert Eagle pistols. My father taught me about guns before he left. He told me to be ready to fight for my country, and for a long time I believed him. Seeing this, and seeing how our government was willing to send teenagers to war, I wasn't so convinced.
Who were these attackers?
One of the men in black spoke.
"You! Shut the hell up! Anyone tries to pull anything like that again, you're dead." He was speaking to a dark haired woman, who was sat next to.....Renée?
No. She wouldn't understand what was happening. I had to do something!
"Jun, my sisters in there! We have to help, now!"
"Okay, just tell me what you need to me to do."
"We sneak around, and try and grab these guys by surprise. Hopefully it'll work."
"You're filling me with confidence, Rivio!"
We put our hastily made plan into action, and I snuck around to grab the guy on the left. He had his gun pointed at the dark haired woman, and was facing away from me. Perfect.
I ran at him from behind and tackled him to the floor. He let out a groan and dropped his weapon. I scrambled for the gun, but he kicked back at me and I went flying backwards. Jun, on the other hand, was involved in a brutal fistfight. The gun belonging to the other man was closer to me, and I dived for it, putting my last ounces of energy into grabbing this gun. Weapon in hand, I turned around and saw my enemy rushing me. We landed in a heap, but I still had my gun. I fired out, and the bullet hit him instantly, square in the head. Dead. I felt a surge of relief.
Then a wave of horror. I'd just killed a man. I'd just killed someone. Someone who probably had a family he was trying to protect, like me. On top of this, then I heard my sister speak.
"Rivio? What happened?"
Jun had knocked out his opponent and rushed over to me.
"Fuck, Rivio, dude! Are you okay?"
"Get out of here. Now! Run!"
"What?"
The fire and smoke from the surrounding buildings was intense, and it was spreading across gasoline on the floor.  Fire was racing through the streets.
"Jun! Get some of these guys out of here!"
The pair of us darted over to the four people tied up, including Renée. She was staring at me blankly, eyes tearing my spirit apart.
Jun managed to get two of the hostages out of there, and I was working on getting Renée and the dark haired woman out.
Suddenly the fire rose up behind us, and I hurried with untying the captives.
An explosion sent me sprawling forward on the ground, head pounding intensely. To my right, a figure lay still on the floor.
I heard Lizzy screaming faintly. She wasn't seeing what I was seeing.
"Rivio! Rivio! Where are you?"
I got to my feet and started searching for Renée, but I couldn't find her. Damn it! She could not be gone!
Focusing again, I noticed the carnage around me. Bodies and fire aligned the pavement and roads of what was once my street.
"Help! Help me! Rivio!"
It was Renée. She was still alive!
I darted back through the grey smoke, and saw her trapped in some rubble.
"Renée! I'm here! Are you hurt?"
"My arm hurts, I think. What happened to the bad people?"
"They're gone now, I'm going to get you out of here."
She was trapped in a collapsed pile of bricks. Her arm was pinned, and so was her lower leg. This would be more difficult than I thought.
Then the gunfire started again.
Five men dressed in black approached my position, holding automatic weapons. The leader raised his weapon at me, and I panicked.
"Please, please don't do this. I'm just trying to get my sister out of here. I'm begging you, do not do this!"
"Rivio, what's happening?"
I didn't get a chance to answer. The leader fired, and the bullet slammed into my chest. I blacked out, and the last thing I heard was my sisters voice.
"Rivio?"
