Marcus fired, and the bullet pierced my forearm. I ran at the bastard and grabbed him by the throat. He threw me off and tried to reload, but I grabbed the gun. We fought over it, but he won and slammed me into the ground. Before he could shoot me again, a half dead Jun clambered over and smashed him around the head before collapsing. Marcus was unconscious and Jun was too. An ambulance drove over swiftly, and loaded Jun and Marcus into the back.
At the hospital, Jun awoke.
"Hey Rivio, one hell of a fight, wasn't it?"
"If you count getting shot in the arm as one hell of a fight, then yeah it was."
"Tell me about it! My belly hurts."
He was discharged later the same day, and Marcus was sent back to jail. Aria met us outside.
"Hey guys, I need you to come with me."
"Okay Aria, what's up?"
"You'll see when we get there."
After a long walk, we arrived. We were at the physician's.
"She wants to talk to us.
The woman who was at the desk spoke to us. Her name was Dr Brooke.
"We've had a large increase of people comparing of severe headaches. The thing is, they all live in the same area. I was thinking we should quarantine the area. Signs say that whatever is happening could be fatal, and can spread easily."
"Okay, are you sure about this?" Aria asked.
"I'm positive."
Jun have the order to quarantine the area. The residents inside the area were unhappy. I saw, however, that they all lived next to the river that ran by our town. I mentioned this to Dr Brooke.
"You're right. I'll run tests on the water, see if there's any signs of contamination."
She came back with the results a few hours later.
"You were right. There are signs of extremely lethal chemicals that are laced in the water. That's how the people were infected. The chemicals appear to be man-made too, no natural ingredients caused this."
"Shit. What do we do?"
"I say we warn residents, and close off the water from the river. I'll run tests on water that's not in the contaminated area."
"Okay. Good plan."
The whole town was briefed, and we were prepared.
I was so, so, so wrong. After two days, the first death from this virus had happened. Soon after, we had one hundred casualties. More and more people were being infected. Dr Brooke was working on a cure, but said it could be up to three weeks.
The whole town was infected after seven days, but me, Jun and Aria had stocked up on water beforehand. We handed it out to those who were not infected.
A virus, probably made by the LR unit, was ravaging our town. I went to see Marcus not long after. We'd been giving him his synthetic blood, so we could get some answers.
"Marcus. A virus is attacking the town. What do you know about it?"
"Hahaha, that old virus! I guess the LR unit is really running out of ideas without me!"
"How do we cure it?"
"You don't."
"How. Do. We. Cure. It?"
"You don't cure it, you stupid fuck!"
I punched him square in the nose.
"Was that supposed to hurt? Now give me my blood, I'm five minutes overdue."
He had to take his blood mixture every two hours. What if he didn't get it?
"Tell me how to stop the virus. Or you die."
"Oh, I'm so scared. I hope the big bad Rivio doesn't bomb me like he bombed the Ceryn's!"
"Okay then Marcus. Enjoy the last few hours of your life." I shut the door and left him in his cell.
"Wait Rivio! My blood! Don't leave me to die!"
I didn't care. I hoped he would die slowly and painfully.
When I stepped out of the prison, Aria met me. She hit me with a bombshell.
"Rivio, I'm infected. The virus, I was so thirsty. We've ran out of water, and I had to drink some. I'm so sorry."
Aria couldn't die. She.....no....
If she died, I'd have nothing left.
