"Holy shit, seriously?!"

I covered my face, clearly embarrassed. Sara and Ashly looked at me like I was insane, but at the same time, grinning like idiots. I had just told them what happened with Eugene and I. We were currently in the girl's bathroom at Buzzfeed.

"I can't believe this," Ashly held her hands up. "No, wait, I can, because I totally called it." I rolled my eyes, still blushing. Becky came into the bathroom, eyeing us up suspiciously.

"The Forbidden Trio," she murmured, amusement evident in her eyes. "You three talking about something juicy?" My blush deepened.

"Nah, just about how Levi's cousin peed in a burger and fed it to customers at McDonalds," Sara said, smiling kindly. Becky's eyes nearly bulged out of her head, but she said nothing. She just slowly closed a bathroom stall. The three of us left and went back to our separate computers. I had been hoping to avoid Eugene all day, that is, until I remembered we sat right next to each other. I could barely breathe with him sitting next to me.

"Hey, Levi," Quinta came up to me with a stack of papers in hand. "Can you copy these for me? I need them for a meeting."

"Sure," I said, taking the heavy stack.

"Drop it off at my computer when you're done, will you? I'm going to lunch." I nodded and made my way to the copy machine. A small and petite blond was copying paper.

"I'm Alyssa," she said, giving me a toothy smile. "I'm the new intern. Are you a Video Producer?"

"Jr. Video Producer," I corrected. "I started pretty recently, too. Buzzfeed is a little scary at first, but it's really fun once you get to know the staff."

"So, you know Eugene Lee Yang?" Alyssa said, her smile wavering. I nodded slowly. What beef does she have with Eugene? The thought put my stomach in knots. Her smile dropped. "Well, whatever you do, don't get in a relationship with him."

"What?" The familiar feeling of death creeps into my bones. "Why would you say that?"

"Well," she seemed to draw out the 'well', as if she wanted me to die of anxiety. "I met him at a party once. I had a couple drinks, he had a couple drinks.. One thing lead to another, and next thing I know, I'm waking up in his house. He said he wanted to see me again and we exchanged numbers, but he never called. I tried to call him, but he never answered."

"Why are you telling me this?" My blood ran cold, and I'm sure that my face was as white as a ghost's. Eugene said the exact same thing to me. I know I don't like him, so why is this freaking me out so much?

"The reason I'm telling you is because he's not trustworthy." Her voice dropped to a whisper. "Trust me, okay? He's a fuckboy from the South. I don't want anybody to feel the pain I did."

She said something else, but I wasn't listening. She walked away with her papers, and I started to copy mine. Is Eugene really like that? I figured from the start he was a major player, but I don't think he's that bad. One night stands happen, but she makes him seem so...

Cruel.

I shook the thoughts away and dropped off the copied papers at Quinta's desk. No, Eugene's not like that. I would know, wouldn't I? We pretty much had unprotected sex, so there's a chance I'm carrying his unborn baby. I should damn well know him by now.

I sat down next to Eugene, a bit uncomfortable. He gave me an odd look, but went back to editing a video. We haven't spoken since the incident yesterday. I know he has my number, but he hasn't called yet. It's making me feel sick just thinking of it. I snapped out of my thoughts when my phone started to buzz in my pocket. I took it out and went over to sit on the staircase. My dad was calling.

"Hey, Dad."

"Hey, Levi," his strong voice rang through clearly, a smile evident through the phone. "How are you, baby girl? How's Buzzfeed?"

"They're treating me well, Pops," I laughed. "Not as bad as I figured. Why ya calling?" There was a silence, until his voice came back, sounding sympathetic. I gripped the edge of my shirt, knowing what was coming.

"It's your mother's birthday tomorrow."

"I know." I didn't mean to sound harsh, but it came out that way. My mom is currently in a prison, somewhere in the countryside. I remember her being smart, pretty, and kind, but apparently, that was not the woman my mother really was. In reality, she was a coldblooded killer of four men.

"Baby girl," Dad's voice softened. "Why don't you go to see her? I.. I know she did some bad things, but she's still your mom. It would make her happy to see you on her birthday."

"Will you be going?"

"I can't," he sighed. "I have work. I called the prison and left a message. Please, baby girl. For me." I hung up quickly, fighting back the tears that threatened to spill. My dad doesn't know what it's like to have your only mother figure kill four people, and go away forever. Even though I'm 24 years old, I still looked up to my mother, until the trial came. Everything I knew came crashing down, and the only question I could ask was, "Why?"

"Are you okay?" A girl asked. I looked up to meet the eyes of Alison's concerned ones. I gave her a pitiful smile.

"Yeah, I'm good," I said, sniffling. She nodded slowly and walked away. I sighed. Why the fuck is my life getting so complicated?

I fucking hate this.
