"It wasn't anything like that!" I giggled as Ashly and Sara gaped at me. "I was in a bad place and he helped me out."
"Oh, yeah," Ashly scoffed. "Some good helping, am I right?" My cheeks flushed.
"I slept on his couch, not in his bed!" I yelped, embarrassed. I must've yelled too loud, because a voice said through the other side of the door,
"Anybody in there?"
"Uh, occupied!" Ashly and Sara panicked and yelled back. I cursed under my breath. The person on the other side stuttered a bit, obviously wondering why two girls answered, but mumbled an 'O‐Okay..' and left. We all sighed in embarrassment and relief, and left the bathroom. I sat down at my computer and checked my email. One of the bosses had sent me a message.
Buzzfeed employees,
We're making a video called "Things That Need To Be Said." You'll be making confessions to people without mentioning their names. You can pretty much say anything you want. If anybody wants to sign up for the video, email me back or sign up at the bulletin board.
‐Brooke, Lighting Crew
I stared at the email. It sounds like it could be fun, but who do I have to confess to? As I thought, an elbow bumped my arm. I turned my head and met the childish grin of Eugene Lee Yang. My cheeks heated up at the thought of confessing to him, and I mentally shot myself in the temple. Don't be stupid, Lev. You don't like him. Who else is there to confess to?
Alyssa.
I can't say I'm fond of the woman. She's too confusing. She says that she and Eugene met at a party, but Eugene says that they dated.. I don't know who to believe. Something about Alyssa just seems off. She might be good to confess to.
I typed a quick email back to the boss, and in about fifteen minutes, she replied with an 'okay, see you at 3:30!'
Time flew by quickly. I prepared myself for the rant I was about to go on, before sitting down at the chair in the recording room. A gray background was behind me. The main director was a guy I had seen around, but never really paid attention to. He gave me a wide grin, and I felt guilty when I thought of Eugene.
"The name's Adam," he introduced. I smiled lightly.
"Levi," I said, shaking his hand. The lighting crew set themselves up as we spoke.
"Oh, I know who you are," Adam laughed. He had a loud, hearty laugh. He seemed like such a cheerful person. "You've got a lot of fans on the YouTube channels. BuzzfeedVideo, mostly. I've always been so shy to talk to you. I thought you would've been, like, fame obsessed." I blushed lightly and waved him off.
"Lord, no," I giggled. "I had no idea I was that well‐known. Nice to know." The lighting crew gave Adam a thumbs‐up. He nodded at them and turned back at me, giving me a bright smile.
"Well, good luck with your confession." Adam sat in a chair behind the camera, turned it on, and gave me the signal to start. I took a deep breath and began.
"My rant goes out to a girl that I ‐ oh my god, I can't even continue." Adam grinned as I began my rant. "You call me by nicknames, and it's like, are we friends? No? Then why the hell you callin' me nicknames? And sometimes I think, 'Omg she's so cute and nice' and then most of the time I think about how bat‐shit crazy you possibly are and I sorta hate you. I mean, I know it's selfish of me, but honestly, do I care? No." I continued on, listing the things that Alyssa did that annoyed me, and it really helped me. The lighting crew had laughed their asses off by the time the rant ended.
"Wow," Adam laughed, coming over to me.
"It felt good to get that out of my system," I admitted, giggling. "I had no idea I felt that awful about her. I'll admit, I feel pretty shitty after that."
"Don't feel shitty," Adam encouraged. I listened to him as he set the camera up for the next recording. "It's good that you feel that passionate about something. Plus, like you said, she's bat‐shit crazy." I laughed as he grinned at me with a familiar look in his eyes. I had seen it before, in another person's eyes. Forgetting who that person was, I shook the feeling off.
"Well, I've got to get back to sleep deprivation and editing videos," I said, waving to him lightly. "I'll see you around, Adam."
"Yeah, see ya, Levi," He called to me. I left the recording room and went back to my computer. Eugene wasn't there. Probably in a meeting. Then again, why would it peak my interest that he wasn't there? It's not like we're close like that or anything, so..
"Just leave me alone, Alyssa."
I blinked. It was a voice, so familiar. I turned my head slightly and realized the conversation was coming from the hallway, in a corner. I'm not one to eavesdrop, but this sounds juicyyyyy. I strained my ears to hear it.
"No! I love you, Eugene. Why won't you accept my feelings?" My blood ran cold. Alyssa's voice. Wait, hold on. Alyssa's in love with Eugene? What the fuck is going on? She told me she didn't like him!
"I won't accept your feelings because I don't love you anymore," Eugene said, his voice hardened. "Please, just leave me the hell alone."
"This is all because of that Levi bitch, isn't it?" Alyssa sneered. I narrowed my eyes. Why would it be because of me? And did she just call me a bitch? You can never trust the interns..
"Wha‐What?" Eugene's voice came back with less confidence than it started with. "No.. No, it's got nothing to do with Levi. Don't get her involved with this."
"Oh, don't play the 'don't mess with her' card on me!" Alyssa snapped. "I know she slept over, Eugene. She's already told Ashly and Sara. She's a dirty liar that doesn't deserve you! I know all about her mother, too. She killed four people, didn't she? Yeah, yeah, she was on the news―"
"The fuck did you say about my mother?" I snapped, standing up from my chair. Eugene and Alyssa turned to see me, gaping in horror and surprise. Alyssa seemed the most frightened. I loomed over her, glaring down at her perfect, ugly face. "The fuck. Did you say. About my mother?"
"I―"
"No, no, no. You don't talk about her. Ever. You understand me? Or so help me I'll snap your wrists." I grit my teeth and glared harder. She whimpered. Eugene just stared at me, but I didn't care. I was fuming so much that steam was about to come out of my ears. I stopped abruptly when somebody tapped on my shoulder. I turned my head, obviously pissed at the person, but my gaze softened when I saw Adam.
"Hey, your ‐ whoa, you okay there, Lev?" He asked, worried. I forced a grin.
"Yeah, I'm okay," I said, casting one look back at Alyssa. She scurried off, but not before whispering something in Eugene's ear. I scoffed and turned back to Adam. "Anyway, what do you need?"
"I was gonna say that your dad was here," he explained. My eyes widened, as did Eugene's.
"My dad?" I tilted my head. "What on Earth..?"
"Baby girl, is that you?" I turned my head and met the huge, ear‐to‐ear smile of my father. And it just so happened that I was surrounded by two hot boys.
